Considering Getting a Real Estate License or Just Got One in the past 12 Months?

Over the past almost four decades, I have met, talked with, and heard about hundreds of people who got a real estate license, and did not enjoy the opportunity.

In other words, they were not having fun, like I do. In some cases, they were spending their money for marketing or several things as an agent and making no headway.

I believe the numbers are something like 7 out of 10 get out of the business within the first 24 months.

The numbers are worse than that, because it takes 24 months before it is time to renew your license. Therefore, hundreds of agents have already given up in the first six or 12 months, their license just hasn’t come up for renewal yet.

  1.       Seriously, have you given it considerable thought as to just why you want to become a Realtor?   Give yourself a minimum of three good reasons. If you can’t you may want to quit now.
  2.       What are you expecting to happen from getting a real estate license? After answering that, think about it a few minutes, today, and then again tomorrow. Do you believe you can succeed at attaining what you are expecting to happen?
  3.       Are you doing this because you know someone else who has earned an exceptional income from it, or someone you know has told you of someone else who you don’t even know that they earned a sizable income?   Just because that person who you may have never even met, do you really believe you can compete against someone who you don’t even know who the competition is?
  4.       Do you realize chances are slim of you earning any money whatsoever in the first three months? And maybe not even for the first six months?
  5.       What are five strategies you are going to use in what five different fields there are in real estate for finding buyers and sellers?
  6.       Do you know how many people fail the real estate school exam and how many fail the real estate state exam?
  7.       How good are you with tests? I am not good, and I failed once in Ohio and twice in Arizona. Did you know each time you retake the test it costs you about $50.?
  8.       Have you considered the amount of money and amount of time you will invest just to see if you can succeed and will also enjoy this career?
  9.       Did you know if you are planning to quit your job, you better have at least six months of income to live off?   Plus, money to covering your marketing costs for six months.
  10.   If you are retiring, or just looking for something to do on the side, or just work with relatives, there probably are hundreds of better things you could be doing with your time?

If I haven’t changed your mind yet, good luck, because you will need it.

Great questions to ask yourself!  how is ExP going?  To answer your question I met with someone here and decided it was not the company for me - I like having an office to go to
