It's Labor Day week-end and may be a perfect time to either try again or try for the first time this Austin iconic restaurant that has been named "One of the year's 100 Best Brunch Restaurants in America!" Its soooo Austin! I recently enjoyed a birthday celebration and once again was reminded how much I love this place! When I was dating my Geno we used to meet here for breakfast ♥♥
CHEZ ZEE https://chez-zee.com/index.htm
This whimsical Austin restaurant has been delighting locals since it opened in 1989 thanks to owner Sharon Watkins. It's warm and welcoming with an original Austin vibe to it. As soon as you arrive, there's an arched walkway with lights that lead to a patio where you are welcome to sit and play board games or take your photo in their roomy colorful chair. Inside there are strands of white Christmas light year round on display. Their support of local artists is evident with the rotating exhibits of artwork on every wall. There's a red piano right in the middle of the main dining room with live music Thursdays through Sundays. They have a wide range of American fare with southern regional influences and use many locally sourced ingredients. You'll be able to choose from a wonderful selection of wines to accompany your meal. Chez Zee has combined a Parisian-style bakery with a casual American style bistro offering award-winning dessert selections when you've completed your entreé.
Here's a sampling of their menu...on the Appetizer menu: there's Fried Dill Pickles - a mound of crunchy fried dill pickle slices served with ranch and chipotle ranch...Crabmeat Quesadillas - southwestern seasoned crabmeat with Monterey Jack cheese and roasted red peppers with red raspberry cilantro salsa...and Lucinda's Basil Cheese Torta with basil pesto cream cheese, sundried tomatoes, roasted red peppers and toasted pine nuts layered with Provolone cheese and served with crostini. On the Specialties menu there's New Orleans Pecan Chicken - a crunchy pecan breaded chicken breast with wild rice pilaf, sauteed vegetables and a Bourbon pecan sauce...and Lemon Rosemary Trout - a pan seared rainbow trout with rosemary and lemon compound butter served with mashed potatoes and mixed vegetables. From the Grille you can choose Bacon Wrapped Beef Tenderloin grilled with roasted garlic mashed potatoes, asparagus and walnut Gorgonzola cheese with a red wine demi sauce. On the Dessert menu there's Lemon Rosemary Cake - 4 layers of lemon cake infused with rosemary picked fresh from their garden and served with fresh lemon curd filling topped with a cream cheese frosting...or maybe you'd like a slice of Chocolate Decadence Cake - 4 layers of dense chocolate cake brushed with seedless raspberry preserves, filled with mocha mousse and covered with a chocolate ganache.
When you're out and about hungry for delicious food in a true Austin setting stop into Chez Zee for, as they say at the restaurant: "American fare with an Austin flair!"
