Realtor® Safety - No Commission Check is Worth Jeopardizing Your Life
We have recently gotten a lot of calls from our website - some of them quite 'strange.' So, I thought I would share a few of our tips we have implemented.
My policy is to meet anyone who phones and wants tour a listing - whether it be my listing or someone elses - in a public location. Depending upon the area that the property they want to see is in, I will arrange a public place to meet - oftentimes my office or a coffee shop. Again, anywhere there are other people.
I tell them that we keep a file of their drivers license on file and snap a photo of that, messaging it directly to one of my assistants. We drive separately to the property as a safety precaution for each of us.
Always park on the street for easy 'get-away' if necessary (so no one can block you into a driveway).
Walking behind them during the tour and never finding myself in a 'room' without having the closest access to the door is another policy of mine. I've been doing that for years and now, I do it without even thinking about it.

As an added layer of protection, my hubby purchased the Guard Llama for me a couple of years ago. It stays on my keyring and has a GPS locator. If I ever depress the alert, it's silent and they do not call, they IMMEDIATELY send the police. I don't know how much he paid for the device but, the monthly fee is $15 and well worth the peace of mind.
Despite all of the safety measures that we take, you just never know when you may need it. As well, if you run upon an accident or any other reason you may need the police, you can simply depress the alarm. I've not used it in the 2 years that I've had it but, again, it's peace of mind.

Don't be a 'pop-tart' agent - be safe; think safety FIRST.
