For the first time in school history, the Coal City Coalers are heading to the state baseball finals! The Coalers avenged a football playoff loss to Addison Driscoll with a crushing 8-4 victory on Monday afternoon at Benedictine University in Lisle.

The Coalers will be playing Stanford Olympia at 4:00 this Friday at Silver Cross field in Joliet, home of the Jackhammers. Should they win they will battle the following evening for the state championship...if they fall- they will play the afternoon game for third place.

Coal City pitcher J.T. Blaine celebrates his team's 8-4 victory over Driscoll Monday in the Benedictine University supersectional.

Jim, dude, I found it so funny that as much as people talk about how great the Atlanta area schools are, that when we came to Knoxville, a school called Farragut which is a suburb won the state AAA championship.

I imagine it's a single-elimination tourney there too? Anytime you're on that format- a lesser team can jump up and bite ya! The Coalers of Coal City have had that happen to them a time or two over the years...but it's nice to see them get a chance to shine on the "big stage"...probably with the added bonus that they play a local high school on that field every year..giving them a bit of extra familiarity.
