Last evening, 6 strong women representing 3 generations of my family, gathered at Petra’s Greek Restaurant at The Palladio in nearby Folsom. It was to begin our very own Girl’s Nite Out. It all started when my daughter Jill, procured seats for us to view the newly released movie, “Mamma Mia – Here We Go Again.”
The delightful Greek food at Petra’s was a fitting selection for pre-show dinner. Ordered from the “Happy Hour” menu, were several plates of delicious bites. There were Domades with Greek Yogurt (Vegetarian stuffed grape leaves with a mix of rice, parsley and Greek seasoning). We also enjoyed Chicken Soulakia (Seasoned and grilled on skewers). Among these special treats were Kalamata olives, vegetable, hummus and Tzatziki sauce. But my favorite was the Saganaki, or fried kefalograviera cheese with Greek cognac, flambéed at our table. And, for desert - Chocolate Baklava!
I would also be remiss if I didn’t mention glasses of draft beer (Olympia brand), were served up for a mere $1.00 each! Great Food – Great Service! Reasonable Prices!
After placing our napkins back on the table in surrender to dinner end, we meandered the several yards away to the Palladio Theaters, to take our seats and watch what turned out to be the outstanding “Mamma Mia” movie. It was without doubt, the best movie I have seen a very long time - Entertaining, wonderful music and hilarious humor. The movie has an exceptional cast which not only included Amanda Seyfried, but Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Christine Baranski, Cher, Meryl Streep and many others. While I liked the original “Mamma Mia” movie produced in 2008, I think I liked this one even better.
