Real Estate...Like Life...Is About Compromise...

.  The easiest attitude to grab is "My way or the highway"...there is no gray...or shades of anything..,it's one way or no way. Ask anyone who has been married any length of time...had a successful career...has successful relationships...it just doesn't work that way.

my way or no way .  The real estate profession labels markets..."Buyers Market" or "Sellers Market" and those labels in and of themselves invite that kind of attitude and encourage one side or the other to "stand their ground"....they can...everyone says so..."it's the market" after all  !  Hmmmm....

Every transaction is different...every neighborhood...every market ...and interpretation, risks of standing on an issue have to weighed.  In relationships, the expression "choose your battles" is often used. (In some relationships...i.e. divorce...what day it is can be a battle,...everything is "worth" arguing.) In real estate...as in any successful relationship, choosing what is most important IS what is important.

Negotiation  To be successful,...you have to have the window of negotiation open at all times.  You may get inclusions and additions...and not the exact date of closing OR the "to the penny price" you had in mind as a Buyer.  The Seller had to do more than planned..and knows that after an inspection there is likely a wish list to come...and more compromise on their part.

"Winning" is rarely about getting your way 100% of the time...it IS about learning that negotiating is the best pathway thru life...and a good one to follow on the road to success,

Things that are too brittle often break. There's no sense in setting yourself up to become broken.

Very well said Sally K. & David L. Hanson , this would make a good hand out to either a Buyer or Seller. There would be so much less stress if everyone understood this.

Sally and David successful business like successful marriages involve give and take.  My way or the highway normally ends in failure.

Sally and David- love this one!  Winning isn't just about who gets the highest score or who takes home the prize.

We had an expression in the business when I started 38 years ago. It was called Win-Win. Don't hear much of that these days.

I think "winning" in real estate is getting it closed.  And I so agree that it's beyond rare that someone gets 100% of what they want in real estate... or life for that matter.

Morning Sally.

During my pre-licensing class the instructor made the statement: "Between birth and death there is this thing called life, everything in life is negotiable".   When you think about it, true statement
