Such a true statement, Paul, that we as Americans understand. Interestingly enough, smiling is not universal... did you know that in Finland they had program to teach people to smile more? And my grandmother, who was born in White Russia in 1895, always used to ask me why "Americans keep baring their teeth." That's a literal translation from Russian... but it was not part of the culture to smile indiscriminately at people you didn't know.

That is really interesting, Nina Hollander ...and you know there are people everywhere looking at people they do not know, from cultures with which they are not familiar, imagining all sorts of reasons why "those people" in the photos are not happy.  Good lesson right there.
