I recently started attending a Young Professionals group hoping to network with other Young Professionals in the area and plant some "seeds". I live on the Ohio/West Virginia border. This group is based more with WV members and I have only an Ohio license. So it's a bit of a bummer. I'm considering starting a group like this on the Ohio side of the river. (As if I have all the spare time in the world!!lol)
I'm wondering if any of you are involved in such a group? Do you have any advise? Comments? Did you take a part in starting the group? Please comment, I'm anxious to hear what you have to say.

Networking groups are almost always a good thing to get involved with. I still do business with members of my first networking group 8 years ago - I'd say go for it!
Have you looked for a local BNI networking group. Its great a referral source. The group is structured so that there is only one person, per profession in each local chapter. Go to www.bni.com
I agree with Stephanie that if you are starting out with networking BNI is a great way to get started and they have a pretty good format...however, it is a weekly committment. But the best way is to start getting your name out there! Good luck!
Melissa, I'm part of a group that has about 30 members now. Young Business Professionals of Montana. We meet once a month. We aren't just a "social" group and we partner with local organizations to do funraisers. Most recently, we did a five week fundraiser for our Big Brother's Big Sister's program, and raised about $3500+. The group is pretty fun and I've gotten to know some great people that way.
There is another young professionals group in town that was formed right around the same time. They, however, don't do any community work. FOr the most part, they jsut meet once a month to have a social hour.
Either way is a good way to go. It's a great idea to ask current memebers to bring others. Some people are hesitant to add "another thing" to their calendar. Just ensure them that it's not "mandatory" to attend, but it's a great way to meet other people their age.
