I do not know who started this or when they first named September 16 , as ," National American Legion Day ' I had read  about it in the carrier Pigeon , a monthly free magazine that I receive. Check out www.theuptightsuburbanite.com. It is interesting to see that they have something for each day of the month of September ,'

Origin of American Legion Day: While the American Legion was formed in 1919, it wasn't until 2009 that this special day was created. On September 15, 2009, Congress proclaimed September 16 as American Legion Day.
