It smells so so good.. homemade, gluten-free and with a hint of Fall

Any house is just a building with walls, windows, flooring, electrical, plumbing ... but add a few layers of personality, colors, sounds and smells, preferably the delicious and mouth-watering kind that rises up from a stove top or oven, lingers for a bit, swirls around and then makes its way to the next room and the next and the next ... that is what turns a house into a home.

I was thinking about this when I was trying out a recipe for homemade, gluten-free, no sugar added donuts with a hint of Fall yesterday and the flavors combined to a remarkable aroma that lured my kids into the kitchen, it smells delicious mommy. And they ended up tasting delicious, too. We couldn't wait to take a bite, never mind letting them cool off. Gone in 5 minutes.

The aroma hung around much longer than that and it made me smile for a while. It was raining cats and dogs outside, ushering in the first signs and thoughts of Fall and it reminded me, how much I love this season to come and how I can't wait for my home to smell of pumpkin, cinnamon, and baked apples.

homemade and gluten-free donuts

Don't underestimate the power of smell when you are selling your Silver Spring and beyond home! It can turn home buyers off and make them run to the next one or it can turn your house into a home for them, by bringing up pleasant memories or visions of the future. Don't go overboard or too personal with smell, however (and don't try to mask a problem with it), stick with the season and imagine that swirl of cinnamon gently lingering in the air.

If you would like the recipe for the homemade donuts or if you are thinking about selling your Silver Spring & beyond home and want to know how to make it the best-looking and best-smelling one for the Fall market, give me a call at 240-593-2860 or send an email to andreabedard.re@gmail.com

Happy almost Fall!

Those are great pictures, Andrea, and it really captures the spirit of your blog. Then I realized that's your daughter and you shot that photo, and it was ten times more enjoyable.

Hi Andrea Bedard, fall is my favorite season as well, too bad we don't have fall in FL. I bet your home smelled great!

There are probably pros and cons to any geographic area but I would miss Fall down south. I am sure you don't miss the weather up north when you hear us complain about blizzards and such!

Hi Andrea

Now THAT was a real feel good...or smell good...post! You are certainly right about the role that smell, especially bad, can play in the sale of a house.

Have a wonderful weekend!

Jeff

Good afternoon Andrea Bedard - it is best for anyone who loves cooking to put it on hold if selling a house.

As a vegetarian I have a hard time with the smell of meat but freshly baked cookies or donuts on the other hand may just persuade me to buy a house

You are a terrific writer, love your style. I would love to have your recipe. Just tell me they are easy to make as I don't spend a lot of time in the kitchen.

Your point is well made. Don't use aromatherapy to mask odors. Eliminate unpleasant odors if that's the case, but smell-good aromas like freshly baked bread.... yummy!

Thank you very much! Yes, they are very easy to make, I don't spend much time cooking or baking either and am always on the look-out for clean and simple! I'll email you the recipe Pat Starnes-Front Gate Realty

Andrea - I don't know how I missed this post when you first posted it, but I did.  I have a granddaughter that requires gluten free products.  I can imagine she'd love your donuts.

I'll send you the recipe Myrl, perhaps you could surprise her when she comes for a visit? My girls loved them and have been asking when we can bake them again.
