I didn't post about 9/11 yesterday as it was a busy day. Much of my time was spent reflecting on that fateful day 17 years ago and attending 9/11 ceremonies. 11 September 2011 is a day that still angers me and evokes the same sadness I feel about the assassination of JFK.
On that day, 11 September 2001, 17 years ago, I was standing in my living room watching events unfold. Our house was busy with contractors replacing our heating system. All work ceased for a couple of hours. We were all mesmerized by what we were seeing.
Our 2nd son called from college and asked "what's going on and what should I do?" I told him "our country is under attack and right now you should stop what you are doing and pray." Today he is one who is a protector and trained to run towards the danger.
On that day a new generation of Americans lost their innocence. The homeland had been attacked, again. The proverbial *bite* was taken out of the Big Apple. What resulted was a bonding together.
On 12 September, The Day After, regardless of our differences or political leanings, regardless of our ethnicity, regardless of every difference, we were all united in a common bond. We were all, simply, AMERICANS.
We need to return to that today.
