Well my big adventure starts this week. Tuesday I leave for Portugal, flying in to Lisbon Airport on Wednesday late morning barring any delays. Then a trip into town on the Metro, a quick visit to a sports shop and then onto the Se de Lisboa to collect my Camino de Santiago credentials/passport which will allow me to stay in the Albergues/Hostels and obtain a Pilgrim meal from restaurants along the way at discounted rates. Then Wedensdaynight I will be staying at an AirBNB in Lisbon close to the Se de Lisboa where I will begin my trek on Thursday morning.
Each day I need to get my passport/credentials stamped and for the last 100 miles I need two stamps a day to prove to the office in Santiago that I have walked all the way to receive my Official Certificate.
This weekend I have been walking with my pack, 9 miles yesterday and today I walked to my office where my manager snapped my photo above and then home about 7 miles. I am glad Lisbon and the Camino will not be as humid as Philadelphia is right now. The last two days encouraged me to purge my bag of all unneccessary weight. It was weighing 18 pounds and my knees, ankle and various weak spots were complaining. I now have it down to 14 pounds much better.
As I walk I know that friends, colleagues and family are supporting two local charities.
