Serendipity Sunday: Another Van Gogh Moment!

By
Services for Real Estate Pros with Napa Consultants DRE00893924

There was something about this lonely bucket of teddy bear sunflowers  at the Santa Barbara Farmers Market that caught my attention. I (A) always associate Vincent Van Gogh with the 12 sunflower series he painted: seven in Arles in the South of France, and five in Paris.

When Paul Gaughin (a stockbroker turned artist known for his primitive  style) came to live with him in Arles, Van Gogh painted Paul's bedroom walls with sunflowers showing every phase of a sunflower from budding to whithering.

Paul Gaughin painted a portrait of Vincent Van Gogh in the act of painting sunflowers pictured above. He titled it, The Painter of Sunflowers.

Happy Sunday and we wish you a great week ahead!

Lise Howe When we live in Napa on a hill, I planted a dozen giant ones.  When we would drive up the driveway home, they would greet us with their big faces. And as winter came, they fed the birds.  A

Good morning Ron and Alexandra Seigel,

Oh I love this post. I can see why you were compelled to purchased this bucket of sunflowers from your favorite farmers. The first thing that came to mind was Vincent Van Gogh with his series of paintings but I didn't know Paul Gaughin painted Vincent Van Gogh in the act of painting his flowers! I love the title of his painting. What a wonderful tidbit of history to share.

I still remember a Van Gogh exhibition at the Met. His vivid colors stick in your mind and never leave.

When I see sunflowers, I am reminded of my nephews wedding a few years ago. He planted sunflowers in a field as a backdrop for their September nuptials. They were married at sunset overlooking the lake. It was beautiful.

Of course, Van Gogh is another touching sentiment. ;-)

I look at those gorgeous Sunflowers and wonder how they came from the tortured soul who cut off his own ear, and then took it to a prostitue. Two years later he committed suicide.

Yet, he had amazing images in his head and put them to canvas for us to enjoy all these years since.

Hi Ron and Alexandra- they look so bright and sunny but perhaps they are lonely without other flowers around them.

Morning Alexandra.

We feed a host of birds, some of which were sunflower seeds.  A year ago some took root.  I had no idea they grew so fast and followed the sun.  They are so beautiful

Hi A - so great to connect with you and Ron again! I've missed you guys! So interesting that  Paul Gaughin painted Vincent Van Gogh while he was painting his Sunflowers series. Funny, I just got back from Paris and saw a lot of Van Gogh's work. Truly amazing!

Good morning, Alexandra... visiting the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam is always a treat, as is seeing his work at the Hermitage in St P. I went to an exhibit of his work in St P a few years back in a huge tent where they showed visuals of his work under dark light. It was amazing.

Hi Ron and Alexandra

Those are beautiful, and that is such a wonderful painting!! Funny but I always thnk of Van Gogh when I see sunflowers. My sister used to grow them when she was alive and I always enjoyed seeing them when we visited back east.

Well, what is funny is that I was going to make the same exact comment that Jeff Dowler, CRS made about the sunflower association with Vincent Van Gogh! I taught art history at the boys' school for their cultural immersion program and every single class favored Van Gogh's work. I believe it had more to do with his eccentricity, as they were so intrigued by his life story!

The girls always chose one of the Sunflower paintings, the boys preferred Starry Night and I always loved Starry Night Over the Rhone!
