ESSENTIAL SUPPLIES TO HAVE ON HAND:
The following items are just the basic supplies and suggestion of items that might be needed at home or for an evacuation. Keep them in an easy to carry backpack or duffel bag in case you need to evacuate quickly. It would also be a good suggestion to make more than one kit and keep it in a vehicle or back up location.

  • A portable, battery-powered radio or television and extra batteries
  • Flashlights and extra batteries
  • First-aid kit and first-aid manual (consider placing a bckup kit in your evacuation vehicle too)
  • Matches in a waterproof container
  • Cell phones with a fully charged battery
  • Signal flares
  • Credit card and cash
  • Personal identification
  • An extra set of car keys
  • Water and at least a three-day supply of canned food
  • Manual can opener
  • Map of the area and phone numbers of places you could go
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Pet carriers and other supplies
  • Special needs, such as diapers or formula, prescription medicine and copies of prescriptions, hearing aid batteries, spare wheelchair battery, spare eyeglasses or other physical necessities.
  • Sentimental photos, albums and important papers
  • Pet items, medications, food, identificaion tags, water bowls, litter pans, etc.
  • A PLAN the entire family and relatives will be familiar with in case you are seperated.

You should store a week's supply of food and water to be kept at your home in addition to your three-day supply for your evacuation kit.

This is just a basic list of essential items. Adjust accordingly to your needs and family members.
