MultiGen Homes with Nature as Neighbors

It's no coincidence that our specialties - view homes on acreage with "elbow room for the soul" - are well-suited for multigenerational homes, too.  They offer accommodations for the whole family.  Sometimes they come with separate living quarters, sometimes they need to be modified. We know how to find homes suitable for this lifestyle, because we have lived it with our family for over a decade. Here is a Summary Market Report for Clark County:

I have recently had a couple of clients looking for a multi-gen home, but there are slim pickings in our market.  At least one builder is building them though and I hope others will as well.

I've considered how nice it would be to have family living nearby but then I talk to my family, and I'm glad they live thousands of miles away and we see each other sparingly, LOL. Would not mind my sister closer, but I don't want to live with her, either. I am in the minority, though.

What do people do who live in multigen homes and the grandparents either die or move away? Does one then downsize? Or does one search for younger family members to move in?

Elizabeth Weintraub Sacramento Real Estate Agent, Top 1% of Lyon Agents If anyone would have told me I'd live with my sister at some point in time, I'd have laughed hysterically at the absurdity of it. Now, it works well. The key, plenty of privacy and space.  When mom passes, we will figure out what is next for us? Do we stay and share the space in our large home, or find two separate spots again? I'll let you know. As for our multi-gen clients...no-one has moved on yet. And since, for the most part, it's not about economics, it will be interesting to see what people choose to do.

Hello Debb Janes EcoBroker and Bernie Stea JD, your niche is a rare and a great one. We don't have many MultiGen homes in my area, not many requests for them either.

Debb, you are lucky to have so many multi-gen homes in your area.   Having 30 sold in the last 3 months is huge.   We don't see many here either.

Debb and Bernie, the 10% annual increase in sale price really stood out to me. MultiGen homes are in demand in Clark County. We see more and more buyers looking for a MultiGen home here and I think that will continue. We recently bought a house right across from my parents in Charleston, the neighborhood they're in doesn't offer a MultiGen home but, this was the next best thing and while it's premature I wasn't willing to let the opportunity go. They took such amazing care of my grandparents and I look forward to doing the same for them. The memories that were made are priceless.
