The City of Brandon had a Town Hall meeting recently to discuss Community Development in the city and the Police and Fire Department budget.
Two important announcements were made during the meeting. First, Brandon was named the Second Safest City in the State of Mississippi by the independent group SafeWise. SafeWise determines the rankings by reviewing data from FBI crime statistics.
Meanwhile, our neighbor Madison, MS was named the number one Safest City in the State. Both of these cities are part of Metro Jackson and are to be commended for the outstanding job they do to keep their residents safe.
The next announcement Mayor Butch Lee made was that the fire insurance rating for residents of Brandon has fallen from a Class 5 to a Class 4. This rating will effectively lower the insurance premiums for residents of the city. If you live in the city, contact your insurance carrier to be sure you take advantage of this new classification.
Mayor Lee announced the Brandon Amphitheater is operating in the black after being open only six months. Amphitheater profits are earmarked for the Parks and Recreation budget, so expect Brandon parks and ball fields to florish. Shiloh Park baseball and soccer fields were renovated a couple of years ago with 5 new restrooms constructed. The Quarry Amphitheater Baseball Park and Nature Trails, as well as a Dog Park, are under construction.
The next Town Hall meeting will discuss the city's water and sewer department, and a subsequent meeting will cover the city streets. Dates and times will be announced once the meetings are scheduled.
