Two types of insurance policy a homeowner should know is
“dwelling coverage” and “personal property coverage”.
Dwelling Coverage: would cover damages to the home if its damages are covered by the peril of the policy. Pipe leaks, washer, toilet, etc.
Personal Property Coverage: would cover personal belongings like furniture, computers, tv’s, clothes etc.
Knowing your deductible and coverage limits is important and something one would want to address with their insurance representative
Does homeowners insurance cover water damage? Read your policy, most will cover unexpected plumbing accidents due to washing machine, dishwasher, toilet and pipe breaks.
Water damage from septic tanks and natural causes like flooding might not be covered. Applying for additional coverage is an option.
