Home Insurance Policy what do you Know about them?

Two types of insurance policy a homeowner should know is

“dwelling coverage” and “personal property coverage”.

  • Dwelling Coverage: would cover damages to the home if its damages are covered by the peril of the policy. Pipe leaks, washer, toilet, etc.

  • Personal Property Coverage: would cover personal belongings like furniture, computers, tv’s, clothes etc.

Knowing your deductible and coverage limits is important and something one would want to address with their insurance representative

Does homeowners insurance cover water damage? Read your policy, most will cover unexpected plumbing accidents due to washing machine, dishwasher, toilet and pipe breaks.

Water damage from septic tanks and natural causes like flooding might not be covered. Applying for additional coverage is an option.

Home Insurance Policy what do you know about them?

Ask your insurance representative what is covered and what isn’t.

Good reminder Bob. Too many times consumers think they may have coverage, but never really understood their policy...

Good morning Bob Ratliff,

You are so right..good topic to go over with homeowners and when a buyer is making a purchase they need to compare quotes..its not all about the premium..what does the policy cover? Are they comparing apples to apples?

Bob there is a lot to consider when it comes to home insurance.  So I make sure that I consult my agent to make sure I have all the coverage I need.

Great reminder to get down to the nitty gritty of your policy.  Many agents don't explain these things before issuing the policy they think is right for the home owner.

Hi Bob- it's so important to know what your policy will and won't cover as well as what your deductibles are.

Bob, the insurance person should explain the policy in detail, and recently know that water is not included.

Bob, this is an excellent topic and not one I see much about. It's very important that homeowners know what coverage they're getting. Cheaper isn't necessarily better.

Excellent post, Bob.  Most homeowners would be well served by reviewing their policies and even getting outside help to understand what is not covered.

Excellent points, Bob! Insurance is a tough issue and getting more complicated. I suspect many are underinsured and don't check in regularly about changes they should be making. It's never wise to assume!
