Edward Kirk was born in Ludlow, Vermont to Waters and Caroline. His family come to the American from England back in 1635. His great-grandfather fought in the American Revolution. He was educated in the public schools before moving to Three Oaks, Michigan in 1858. After reaching adulthood he worked in a sawmill.
In 1864, he worked for Henry Chamberlain at a local dry goods store. While working there he learned the females were complaining about something they wore. Taking their issues to hear the invented something that will forever place him in the history books. A patent was issued for his invention in 1883. He started his own company producing that item, he held the position of President of that company until his death in 1902.
What you may not know about Edward Kirk Warren is that his invention was the featherbone corsetry. It replaced the corset used by women of the day which was mainly made with whalebone. The Warren Dunes State Park and Warren Woods State Park in Michigan is named after him.
