First I got tagged by Rebecca Levinson.  Then Stewart Penn tagged me.  And Anthony Clark tagged me on my Wisconsin blog.

Okay, I give up.  It's MeMe time.

1. Who is your favorite musical artist?

I don't listen to music for relaxation.  I worked in symphony orchestras for twenty-five years before getting into real estate.

Ever meet a blacksmith who loved his anvil?

My favorite opera singer is Kiri Te Kanawa.

I listen to Garth Brooks, Kenny G and Prince now & then. My favorite Prince tune is the first song on his "Gold Album"

2. Who is your favorite artist?

I prefer art I can OWN.

I like Hans Holbein, Canaletto, Titian, Jan Vermeer, Hieronymus Bosch, John Trumbull, Paul Gauguin, Modigliani, Cezanne, Miro, Klee, Kandinsky, Kokoschka, Saul Steinberg, William Stieg and Albert Charetsky.  My tastes in art are all over the map.

3. Who is your favorite blogger?

Tough question..

Who doesn't love Karen Anne Stone?

There are so many great bloggers here.  I could list forty or fifty favorites.

4. If you could meet anyone (alive or dead), who would it be and what is the most interesting thing about them?

I try to avoid socializing with dead people.

I'd have to split my vote between Golda Meir and Jennifer Lopez.  I'd be interested in meeting both, for equally obvious (if somewhat different) reasons.

5. What did you want to be when you grew up?

I started out wanting to be a nuclear physicist.  By the time I was in high school, I was more interested in becoming a famous French horn player, like Dennis Brain.

In adulthood, I've toyed with fantasies about becoming an international jewel thief..

6. What is the most interesting piece of trivia you know?

Did you know that Alfred O. Nier isolated the first sample of fissionable Uranium 235 in 1940 at the University of Minnesota, using a mass spectrograph that he partially constructed in his garage?

Trivial enough for you?

7. If you could live in any point in history what would it be and why?

I like the current era we live in.  I'm glad we have antibiotics, transplant surgery and microwaveable pasta meals.

8. What is the most interesting job you have ever held?  Paying or non-paying?

My years as a conductor and Music Director at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis would have to qualify as the most interesting job I've had.  The pay was very good.  And I had my own dressing room.

It's time for the hand-off.  My invites go to:

Eric Webster

Joan Mirantz

Steve Harless

Poppy Dinsey

Karen Moorhead

Jeanie Hoholik

Leo Vinteler

Chris -- Glad to see you here.  I finally got around to adding you as an Associate!

Marc, thanks!  This was my third MeMe.  I like the idea of just plugging answers in among the pre-determined questions.  It beats writing a Reader's Digest version of your biography!

Teri, it's true, I used to wave a stick at the Guthrie pit orchestra.  I also conducted orchestras for jingles (commercials) at Studio 'M' (Minnesota Public Radio) and in Dallas, with members of the Dallas Symphony.

Before that, I was a French horn player in various orchestras.  I started out in the Israel Radio Orchestra as a hornist in the mid-1970s, right out of college.  I worked with the Tucson Symphony for a couple years and was an extra/substitute hornist for Minnesota Orchestra for a number of years.

Eric:  What a great and interesting MeMe.  I had some ideas about your musical talents, but had no clue that you were so versatile, and played in so many noteworthy orchestras.  What a talented guy you are.  And, thank you so very much for your kind words about me and my blogging.  I appreciate it... more than you will ever know.

Steve,

I doubled on trumpet a couple times when I was working at the Guthrie.  The trumpet player got sick one evening and they gave me his trumpet and said "go learn this".  Since I'm a French horn player, it wasn't all that tough.  It took me about half an hour to get comfortable with the fingerings and the different resistance of a cylindrical bore instrument.  And when I played the show that night, a couple other brass players told me I sounded better than the regular dude!
