Inspirational Thoughts for 10/27/18

"Change your life today. Don't gamble on the future,

act now, without delay." --- Simone de Beauvoir

HOME MAINTENANCE

Have you ever noticed seasons come with warning signs and everything is subject to interpretation? When autumn leaves change, one may be drawn to the beautiful colors but what's behind nature's hidden messages?

Don't ignore what you see but ask the question, what does it mean? Here in Texas leaves are falling to the ground, there may be puddles of water on your sidewalk or sections of your lawn. If you live in North Dallas, you know we have had a lot of rain. Don't ignore the fact that pipes can burst underground and someone can slip and fall on wet leaves and slippery pavement. An annual home maintenance check-up may cost you some money, but home owner liability can cause pain, suffering, loss of job, and potential law suit. Things to check include:

  • Unusual wet areas on your property
  • Clogged leaves in rain gutters
  • Annual furnace service
  • Spigots and things that can freeze and burst
  • Shingles and flashing on roof
  • Exposed wood may need replacement, paint, repair
  • Dead trees are dangerous
  • Fireplace flue and chimney
  • Air leaks, chalking, weatherstripping
  • Water Heater
  • Indoor plumbing, toilets, sinks, tubs, garbage disposals
  • Attic insulation
  • Doors and windows

HEALTH AND SAFETY

When it comes to health and safety, don't bet your life on ignoring your own well being. Have you did a head to toe check-up on yourself and what's protecting you from harm or being put out of commission? Don't ignore the warning signs. If you see a mole, have it checked. If you are having trouble sleeping, eating, breathing, walking, talking, forgetfulness, seeing, bending, and things just don't seem normal, make sure you check them out without delay.

If your body isn't moving and/or functioning like it is supposed to, consider having the following checked. Think of this, if you can't move around as fast as you did before, could you get out of your house quickly if there was a fire? Please check on these:

  • Smoke Detectors should be up-to-code and working
  • Carbon Dioxide Detectors can detect silent killers
  • Obstacles, rips, and tears may cause falls & you can't get up
  • Slippery showers, tubs, and floors
  • Leaky faucets and body parts
  • Have you had your annual check-up?
  • Have you had your teeth cleaned?
  • Diabetic? Do you have open wounds or ingrown toenails?
  • If you can't see well now, it won't get any better by ignoring eyes

While you're thinking of it, act now without delay!

Don't gamble with your future

Patricia, it’s very easy for us to put off maintenance on our home and ignore health issues on our own body. You’ve covered so many topics here and these are important tips to remember and act on as well. Hope you enjoy a wonderful fall weekend.

Good morning, Patricia... it always amazes me how people spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on a house and then don't spend any money (or much time) to maintain what is for most the single most expensive asset they own.

Good morning, Patricia Feager thinking ahead and being totally prepared and mindful of potential dangers if proper maintenance is not performed is most important.... negligence costs money!!

Good morning,  Patricia --- calculated risks, depend on the situation with gambling rarely happening especially not recommended for such a major life investment.

I love this post and wanted to reblog it possibly, but it isn't allowed?  I am not a big gambler, but I try to make educated guesses when it comes to my future, haha.

The last few days, I feel kind of like a squirrel getting ready for winter.  I've been canning things, and the spring cleaning I should have done in April is finally getting done now!  I love your words, Patricia, and the picture too!

Hi Patricia Feager - You are pointing out a fact that many take for granted. Health and Safety.  My husband bought a snow shovel and ice shovel just in case.  During winter, we leave it right outside our front door. Even if there is only a half inch of snow, he gets out there and makes a path all the way from the street to the front door. I don't think anyone else has a snow shovel.

Great post Patricia!  I hope you don't mind that I send a copy of this to our VP of Mortgage Production, Manny Uceda in our Southlake office for Texana Bank (just in case, his number is (972) 679-5494) and our Branch Manager in Longview, Dennis Crosby (his number is (903) 234-1099).  In fact, I think this is something all of our Loan Originators in every state could use.  Thanks!

Our handyman has a long list if items to take care of at our house during the next couple of weeks. Also, a new roof is to be installed after long rain delays.
