IT HAS TO PAY FOR ITSELF

The title of the post applies to everything if you choose to believe or investigate it. We do to have or why would you do? The second phase in this thought process is what is the gain from the doing or having? Everyone has to ante-up in this game & we all have the same value to do so i.e. our time! That is our investment in common

EMPLOYEE

Why would an employer hire an employee? The answer while different in the details is linked in the general answer which is they need help! The employer is spending money to make money while providing a better service or consistent product in a customer servicing way. This employee has to "pay" for themselves

VOLUNTEER

I chose this subject for contrast to the post point and above paragraph. Even if there is no monetary-driven movement one still invests "time" and expects something in return for that time or why spend the time? A return on ones time is personal and subjective. Called a "pay-off" in the vernacular, it is the end result

 CELL PHONE part 1

Go back to the days when you were able to go mobile & make or receive calls! Big portable phones shaped like a lunch box were available for those that needed to send and receive while on the go. The next phase allowed mobile phones to be installed in vehicles followed by the final phase of personal pocket cell phones

CELL PHONE part 2

If used for business this technology pays for itself over and over again. If used for personal satisfaction and convenience it pays for itself as well. Interesting to note that unless they improve on the cell phone why would you buy another once having purchased? Because it comes with new features which must pay for itself! Today, it is getting harder to appeal to the consumer to purchase again since the phone does it all!

TOOLS

Whether for the trade you are in or to maintain or perform a task at home or at the office "tools" must provide a return on investment some of them being costly too. When hiring anyone to perform a service, they come with all the necessary tools of the trade to perform a result sought. They charge accordingly

YOUR VEHICLE

Yes this is a pleasant convenience but also at some point has to make sense in the cost world. Insurance, maintenance, repairs and upkeep do not come cheap! Thus is it worth it to own one? Furthermore, if yes, is it worth it to upgrade to a modern vehicle over a functional one? Again, the answer lies in paying for itself

KITCHEN GADGETS

What is in your kitchen pays for itself over and over or it would not be there! All cooking requires cooking utensils, pots, pans and the like as well as eating utensils and cleaning detergents when done. Add ovens, microwaves, coffee-maker, dishwasher and garbage disposal which all contribute nicely to their purposes

OUTSOURCING

This is where we spend money to get something we need. The individual decides whether this is worth it & can be necessary to do or optional. It can be for various services like legal, medical or Real Estate related or as simple as getting a mani and a pedi or massage. All of it, whatever it is must give a return on itself

THE PITCHMAN

We are bombarded with marketing, advertising and enticements of all kinds and natures that try to influence you through their "choose-me" tactics. However, the why we should do so is subjective and we decide if the return for doing so is worth it. Sales people will pitch the why. It can get complicated if it all sounds alike!

HAVING FOR HAVING SAKE?

Waste comes to mind for this point. The mere act of wanting without needing makes no sense. If you ever seen lots of toys purchased for gifts to one child, even they at some point if they don't get a personal and satisfactory return on the playing with it will abandon it quickly! More is not prudent! Purpose is!

APPLIES TO EVERYTHING

At this point in the post I may have (I hope) triggered your own example of it has to pay for itself one way or the other, personally or professionally for you to keep using or having it. If you like, please share your example for us to further appreciate the posting point. Your comment is what is in it for me for writing this post LOL

Richie- so many items running through my head right now. One kitchen "gadget" we have is by all standards expensive for what it does. We have had it for about 15 years and had it repaired 3 times. But for us, it pays for itself because we like what it makes for us better than the other appliances that do the same thing.

I love this, Richie: More is not prudent! Purpose is!

Our #1 goal, should indeed, be ROI. I will say that I would rather have only one thing that brings great return than a dozen that bring nothing. I buy for ROI and nothing else. No shiny toys here!

As for employees, each time I hire another assistant, it frees me up to prospect and have more face-time with clients and potential clients. I'm at my 'max' now but, boy, they really do pay for themselves, in dividends!

And, I totally remember the lunchbox sized bag phones - you brought back scary memories! I was afraid to use the thing for fear of the $2.00 per minute charge! LOL Now, in this day & age, a phone pays for itself nearly the day it's purchased. However, no need to buy the latest & greatest...until you NEED it!
