Signs That You Should Not Buy a House

By
Real Estate Agent with Elizabeth Anne Weintraub, Broker DRE #00697006

Being a Sacramento Realtor, I cannot stop looking at houses. Which is a good thing given my profession. Doesn't matter where I am in the world, I can't walk past a real estate brokerage without stopping to look at homes in the window. It's kind of like an obsession.

Even while I am in Hawaii and in the midst of remodeling my house there, I look at other homes in Hawaii online. That's because I get the paper, West Hawaii Today, and Friday's edition contains a real estate section . . .

I find when I'm looking at the homes, I become highly critical, even though I am not in the market for a home. Suppose that could be one of the signs that I am not really a home buyer. My opinions run from that bath is too small, to the back yard is not big enough or the view is not quite spectacular to I hate the kitchen orientation.

Well, I've had my share of buyers lately who should not be buying a house. You can read more in my personal blog today at this link: How to Tell if You're Not Ready to Buy a House.

I have to agree Elizabeth, especially when the buyers find faults in every house that they look at.

Absotlutely! And a great realtor will help with the discovery process. My daughter who intended to buy a house at the end of the year is going back to grad school. We discusssed, not only the stress level of having a full-time job, a three year old, and going to school to be a Family Nurse Practioner, but adding a new house in the mix. What if something needs to be repaired? What if the car blows up, or gets destroyed by hail? It happens. Do you have all of the resources to handle the unexpected. No she doesn't and the house will wait. ;

Elizabeth, I took a buyer out yesterday, that THOUGHT she was ready to buy a home.   The more questions I asked, it was apparent, she is not.

You are so right.  If a buyer can't get excited about a home, any home, then they shouldn't be buying.
