I've always enjoyed sunsets almost as much as sun rises. There is something about the sun setting and pulling down the shade on another day. Sigh....sometimes its the perfect ending for a perfect day. Sometimes its a relief to end a day that's been less than stellar. Either way there is a calming aspect as the fiery ball falls below the horizon and the darkness sets in.
I've always been thankful my dad made a point to show us how wonderful it was to experience the brilliant colors of a sunset and how each day it was different. No two exactly alike.
When we were on vacation my dad loved to sit on the banks of the lake after dinner as the sun was going down. Sometimes he'd skip stones over the water or sometimes just sit and drink in the brilliant colors. We'd listen to the fish jumping and sometimes catch fireflies in a glass container. It was a way to wine down and appreciate another blessed day. It was a time to feel grateful for each day as we are not promised another one. My dad died at 61 years old in 1978. I often wondered if he somehow knew he had to make the most of each day because he was not meant to be here to see his all of his grandchildren grow up and have families of their own.
My younger brother is a lot like my dad. To this day he takes his family to the same lake we use to vacation in upstate New York every summer. He enjoys sunsets and the last house they bought has a deck where they can enjoy sunsets everyday!
It's fun to email sunset photos back and forth or post on Facebook (this photo above was taken 5 years ago in Mexico). We both appreciate all that sunsets have to offer.
This is my second entry into Debbie Reynolds challenge this month.
