Thankful to Live in a Realm of Plenty

By
Real Estate Agent

Debbie Reynolds (the Real Debbie Reynolds) is hosting a 10 Day Thanksgiving Post Challenge.  And, this challenge has inspired me to take a little time out each day and contemplate my blessings.  This is Day 1.

This morning when I woke and switched on the TV, I was immediately hit with news images of folks attempting to leave troubled parts of the globe and migrate to places promising a better life. The image gave reason to understand that not a single day in life have I gone hungry - other than the couple of times I was prepping for a colonoscopy!

When we stop to consider so many folks go without food on a regular basis, those of us who find food plentiful are truly blessed. We shouldn’t take that gift for granted. And, we should understand the importance of sharing with those less fortunate!

I have a small garden that provides squash, tomatoes, peppers, grapes, and, most anything I wish to poke into the ground and cultivate. This summer, it came to a point I believe neighbors and family ran when they saw me coming because of the overload my little garden was producing.

As my Day 1 contribution to Debbie’s 10 Day Thanksgiving Challenge, I am grateful I live in a realm of plenty!

Myrl, you picked a wonderful thing for which to be greatful - we too often take for granted how fortunate we are to have food, when so many go hungry.

I think for many, food isn't even on the radar of grateful things.

Good morning,  Myrl- - -if we are truly observing of the world around us we are aware and concentrate on the "plenty" and "abundance"  in our life. My, how your garden grows!

The garden this year was astonishing.  There were so many tomatoes off the vines, and I swear you could see the squash growing before your eyes.

Hi Myrl: I appreciate your finishing touches of herbs around your garden vegetable display, you are so creative!

My late father-in-law regularly donated to the food bank in Chicago. I've also supported the food bank in Sacramento and a place near Kona for the lava victims. You are right in that food is a basic necessity many of us take for granted. I could not in a million years imagine living through the potato famine that happened in the mid 1800s in Ireland.

It is interesting that you mention the potato famine, Elizabeth.  The other day, a friend was wondering why it was a shortage of potatoes would cause people to starve. Wasn't there other things they could eat, he asked?  But, it can be fascinating to learn how one food product which can be used to feed other parts of the food chain, live stock, etc., can have such an impact.

What a delicious and delightful post about how very fortunate most of us are to live in a land of plenty. We also produced an overflow of food to share this past summer. Thanks for this entry, Myrl. It's a good one.  D

I can remember no year quite like this one for vegetable growth.  I planted less, but had more.

Myrl-I smiled at you saying family and neighbors might run when they see you coming. When I had my house in NY I had a garden that really produced.

It was so bad this year, that two of the squash plants had invaded the lawn area, and I had to prune them so the lawn guy could get in the side gate.

Myrl- what a beautiful post. You are so right in that we all are fortunate to have so much, especially when there are those around the world who want for at least one good meal a day.

Myrl Jeffcoat - Abundance - what a truly nice thing to be thankful for! What I find most amazing is, California continues to be in a drought; yet you don't moan and groan, nor do I ever remember you show us a picture of you doing the Rain Dance. You have a good outlook on life. May you continue to discover the things in life that are truly important and share them with others.
