Day 7 for the Thankful Contest by Debbie Reynolds - I am thankful for Advanced Medical Procedures. The article inside this hyperlink the historic breakthrough to use ultrasound to treat Alzheimer's dated October 29, 2018 is especially noteworthy. It gives me hope. Newest discoveries about the brain's memory and consciousness is worth the search for the cure by R&D within the Medical Industry. Anyone who has been a family member or dear friend of a loved one with Alzheimer knows how painful it is to witness sudden memory loss.
I remember several years ago I flew into Melbourne, FL to visit my friend, a mentor, old enough to be my mother, wise enough to understand things that as a younger woman, I couldn't understand. She had lived a life of abundance, knew what it was like to survive as a result of WWII, had many life experiences (good and bad), and was well educated. I always looked up to her for guidance. But on the day I arrived at the airport to meet her, she didn't recognize me. She stood there, staring at me, not recognizing who I was. When I called her by name, she got angry and wanted to know what did I do with her friend? She refused to believe it was me. This wasn't supposed to happen.....
A few years ago, I flew into Sarasota to visit my Aunt. We always enjoyed our visits and she loved my company. Everything seemed normal until we got on the elevator at the Assisted Living Facility. I pressed the button for her floor and she gave me a cold, angry look. What are you doing? She asked. I said, "Aunt Sophie," I'm pressing the button for the floor you live on to go with you into your apartment. I don't know you! Don't follow me! Get away from me! She started to scream.....
I remember my college classes beginning in 1988. I took Computer Science, Operations Management, Programming, Database, and other Data Processing & Computer Science classes. On each first day of class, the opening statement was always the same. "Our brain is a computer, we store information in a file drawer in the back of our brain. There is nothing wrong with the computer. It's always going to be an Operator's error." Are we on the brink of implosion of the brain or is there hope that one day Alzheimer will be cured? If the ultrasound treatment used by the "World-leading brain experts at West Virginia University's Rockefeller Neuroscience Institute are celebrating the historic breakthrough Alzheimer patients around the global have been waiting for," then there really and truly is hope worth waiting for and celebrating.
Life is a blessing...
