My mom was a Home Economics teacher at Linton High School in upstate N.Y. (Brenda Mayette you know where that is - of course it's now merged with Mount Pleasant High School and is now Schenectady High School) and an unbelievable cook and baker! She baked pies, cakes, cookies and breads and thank goodness I have most of her recipes to share with family.
My family loves the apple recipe from Mom. I now only bake it Thanksgiving and Christmas, as it is a labor of love!
Just this past week my granddaughter Maggie (who is a senior in high school) made this apple pie pictured. Didn't she do a great job? Notice the WW on the lattice work which stands for Westwood High School. She belongs to a girl's social group called Pacesetters and they work on many service related projects throughout the year as well as spirit related activities in the sports area in her high school.
One of their spirit related activities included a drawing of names from the male sports players and was their task was to to bring something to them (like when you have a Christmas angel) to surprise them on certain days. Maggie knew her pick and the boys mother was a friend of Maggie's mom. A bug was put in Maggie's mom's ear that this young man loves apple pie!
Of course using Mom's apple pie recipe was an easy solution to what she would take to him. The reality was it was more labor intensive than she planned! As she learned, something really good takes time and effort. The joy of giving something thoughtful is totally worth it. Her creation was greatly appreciated and little did she know it made me (her Nana) so happy to see Mom's special apple pie recipe being created 3 generations later and really enjoyed! Love you Maggie Grace ♥♥
