Hello everyone in the group,

I belong to several forums across the internet and read about all the doom and gloom out there.  Here in the greater Rochester area, we seem to be "weathering the storm" a little better than most.  I do see some signs that problems across the country do have some counterpoints here, i.e. the neighborhoods of Cleveland that have been decimated by poor lending practices (think some of the urban problem spots here) or the large groups like Lending Tree and Countrywide that put poor mortgage practices in effect.  While I am definitely positive about the area and think that business will improve in the coming period, my question to all of you is for your perception of the local market.  I may use some of the responses in my blogging efforts.

Scott, Luckily for me I started last year when everything was going south. Coming from auto sales I have seen ups and downs before and always managed to do well; as a manager we always tried to keep everyone on a positive note as negativity breeds negativity. Personally I am ahead of projections with a supposed down down market.  Keep the chin up and enjoy the fun times we have.

Thanks and have a better day than I'm having. Ray

My take on things is that Rochester is a growing market.  We are still seeing some growth in values even though the number of closed sales is down.  I believe that the prospects for the Western New York market that are being put forth in some media outlets (i.e. cnnmoney, etc.) is very good.

Ray:  Welcome to the wonderful world of Real Estate!  I came from retail myself, so I can appreciate where you're at.

Don:  I agree, we all have to get the word out on the conditions here in Rochester.  One thing I mention to out of town folks is our abundant water supply, this will be a big factor in the future.  Maybe someday the D&C will think that this is a nice place too....
