The Boston Active Rain Meetup: after-action report a bit late…
I am so grateful that, the Active Rain Meetup in Boston was such a huge success, thanks to the Coordination of Lisa Von Domek I am sorry that I this post is a bit late. I have many excuses never the less it does not change the lateness, so I will not bore you with them.
First let me mention about the weather: it was a stereo typical New England Weather. As the locals know, it can change on a moment’s notice. Jeff Dowler, CRS emailed us that it was “chilly” since he got in the day before we were leaving Los Angeles. I mentioned to Debe Maxwell, CRS & Lisa Von Domek to pack warm. Ironically upon our arrival, the first two days were super humid and in the high sixties. Clearly, I looked foolish with my pre-warning. Finally, on the third day I got vindication, the temperatures dropped to the high forties and low fifties. As Diane and I were leaving on Tuesday there were torrential downpours too. Hence, we covered all the different options in six days outside of “snow & ice “. On a high note the Foliage was at the end of the peak season, hence we caught some great photo opportunities of the “ Fall Foliage” that we all have been bragging about for years.
The company was great: Having had such a great group of Active Rain Members with whom we connected over the years was very special to finally meet face to face. Lisa Friedman drove all the way from Vermont and Grant Schneider from New York and George Souto from Connecticut and Sheila Anderson from the Berkshires is a true testament that the friendships are real on Active Rain. Of course, we could have spent all night talking but many had to go back since they did not plan on staying in Boston. It was a bitter sweet moment to say goodbye to them. The smaller group, now down to about eight decide on a moment’s notice to go from the Back Bay to the South End for some Sushi. Jeff and I were shaking our heads that the odds of getting into the Restaurant would be slim to impossible on a Friday Night without reservations. Clearly, we under estimated the Power of Persuading by Lisa Von Domek. The place was packed and despite that with less than five minutes of negotiations we were immediately seated like Royalty.
The Conclusion: Diane and I look forward to next year’s Meetup in San Francisco. I hope we can spend more time with everyone. I have been lamenting that I wish we had more time to talk. That of course is a clear sign, that we were a likeminded group and those who I did not mention by name is not meant as a slight just not enough space and not wanting to write a chapter rather just a post. Diane was one of the outsiders and she was inspired by this Active Rain Meetup to coordinate her own Meetup with her friends on a reading platform called Goodreads. That to me is a classic sign of a Successful Meetup! Thank you for everyone’s friendship and kindness I will treasure every moment we had.
