"Smarter" Remodeling Design Trends To Fit Homeowners Lifestyle!
By Jeannene Edwards

Remodeling design trends for luxury homeowners in Orlando, Florida and elsewhere have changed... instead of thinking "bigger" they're choosing to think "smarter"! Through renovating, their motivation is not only to update the look and feel of the home, but also to improve the comfort and function of their space to meet the changing needs of their lifestyle. The following are ways to incorporate some of these changes:

Grand Entrances - nothing says "welcome home" more than being greeted by a grand entrance! Stately covered porticos, columns, circular stone drive-ups etc. are not only an aesthetic upgrade to the home, but an economic one as well. This type of renovation can add as much as 10% to the value of the home.

Interior and Exterior Gourmet Kitchens - these areas are considered to be the "heart" of the home where friends and family come together. They should be designed to accommodate the homeowners desire to entertain on a grand scale, both formally and informally. With the addition of energy efficient and sustainable appliance packages and the latest wood, metal and stone finishes, you will be able to create a beautiful space to meet the multiple needs of all those who are living in the home.

Outdoor Living Areas - optional outdoor liveable space will enlarge the effective living area of the home, and can easily be renovated, taking a home from ordinary... to extraordinary! Pools, cabanas, bars, spas, recreational courts, fire pit seating areas etc. These are some of the most popular design trends and amenities that provide luxury homeowners with a lifestyle, not just a place to live.

Master Bedroom/Bath Suites - this area will often include a library/sitting room, and a dramatic master bath where luxury homeowners can retreat to become both mentally and physically rejuvenated. Doorless, multi-headed shower enclosures, whirlpool baths and saunas, towel warming drawers and racks... these are just some of the ways that through attention to individual customized design detailing the "spa experience" can be achieved at home. Note: Having two master bedroom/bath suites has become a popular remodeling request due to accommodate changing lifestyles, i.e. live-in parents, adult children etc.

Individual Home Office Suites - because technology, the internet and wireless communications have transformed our daily activities, this renovation is considered to be a "must-have" by many. Luxury homeowners view individual in-home office suites as their personal headquarters to stay connected and manage their busy lives.

Entertainment/Flex Areas - With the many technological advancements that have been made, this area has replaced the classic "living room" of yesterday, and has become the "hub" of today for family and friends of all ages to gather. Superior surround sound at the touch of a button has made home theaters more popular, and user friendly than ever.

All of these "smart" remodeling design trends and amenities have been designed to improve quality of life... and meet the diversified and changing lifestyle needs for the most discriminating homeowner.

Thanks, Jeannene - good tips on current trends. I've noticed the use of 'Flex rooms' in lots of homes these days - just an extra room w/o a closet that seems to have no use. Seen any of those?

Hi Thomas,

Yes I have, and clients are requesting them to help meet all of the many "varied" technical needs of each member of the family . . . great new trend!
