Poll - "Bad schools must keep people from purchasing in bad school districts!"

By

school busesI love polls.

Sometimes I love "other" answers on polls.. you find some funny stuff in the other answers... on some issues I will not include "other " because I am afraid of the comments I could get.

There is an anonymity to answering a poll. Kind of.

Polling on my local blogs

I poll about the mundane... on my Columbus Ohio blogs, ColumbusBestBlog.com and Discover Columbus. No issues. Light stuff. Mundane stuff like:

What's the best local Mexican restaurant in Central Ohio?

Do people in Columbus like "sweet tea" or unsweetened iced tea?

Is it too early for Christmas music on the local radio stations (a pre-Thanksgiving 2007 poll....)

What's the best Columbus neighborhood?

What's the best Columbus suburb...

Whether our local media is evil and biased... (it's a quote of a member of the local media...)

Not a lot of issue there... pretty "ho hum" although people can get kinda fiery about Mexican food...

Polling on ActiveRain is different

I have had some silliness about polling being "evil" or wrong on ActiveRain... if you ask about what should be outlawed on ActiveRain... you are encouraging ActiveRain to limit "free speech"? If you ask if something is hate speech you are promoting hate speech. Huh? I did not allow "other" votes on the latter... but did on the first poll... Funny "others" (some funny ha ha others funny odd) included:

"responses by people that clearly don't understand the post."
"Polls asking about outlawed content"
"chris brogan pinping himself"

This is one "other" answer on an ActiveRain post's poll that I thought was funny:

"Bad schools must keep people from purchasing in bad school districts!" a comment on blog about a lawsuit against a real estate blogger.

The post Sue Who? was about a lawsuit against a real estate blogger.

hmmmmm was the person who wrote that "other" saying that the bad schools would keep people from buying in bad school districts? What does that have to do with bloggers being sued? Or did the person who left the "other" comment mean they are on a mission to keep people from buying in bad school districts? ... that they would risk a lawsuit for that purpose...

Oh well it's a mystery. Kind of. The "other" is anonymous. Kind of...

Q. "Are you afraid of getting sued for what you write on your blog?"

Here's the Answers via a poll

Answer TextVotes%
As long as I don't libel anyone I should be OK blogging. 14 21%
The case in Miami makes me nervous. 14 21%
NO! 12 18%
YES! 12 18%
As long as I don't anger anyone I should be OK blogging. 9 13%
My broker doesn't know what a blog is yet. 5 7%
Other... 1 1%
The case in Miami makes my broker a little nervous. 1 1%

The other is "Bad schools must keep people from purchasing in bad school districts!" Mission statement?

Blogging about school districts makes me a bit nervous to begin with... you know... laws... that whole HUD thing. Discrimination... Who am I to decide for someone what's a good school district or a "bad school district."

You are definitely correct about 'wondering' about the 'laws'. It is the ones who don't have a conscience who just run amuck and state whatever they want on a blog..on their website or whatever. Even when clients ask me what I think of this or that school district I give them the website to the DOE here and they can check it out themselves.

Now, if we just name what schools are in certain neighborhoods without additional 'input' I don't think there's anything wrong with that.

There really is no such thing as a bad school district, is there?  The internet is a great help with all the school district and report information available.  Thank goodness, schools are SOOOOO personal.

You can have a bad experience in a "sought after" school and a great experience in  a "less sought after" school.  Parents matter more that district but I always direct them to resources to research the options and tell them to talk to residents in the area.  I am not going to label anything as good bad or indifferent.  My license is not worth a mistake like that.

having opinions about schools won't get you in trouble... sharing them will, IMHO, if you are a RE agent.  Maybe the person who posted that is not even a real estate agent. Or maybe it is not a mission statement. It may be someone pulling my leg.

There are often "other" comments on polls that I just do not understand. The Chris Brogan comment is an example.

Thanks for the comments.

I think it is very funny.  I just don't get what it has to do with "laws" on ActiveRain.

MM,

The Sue Who? blogger should have been defended by his company, instead they terminated him for giving an opinion.

lately it does seem A/R has been cracking down on those who aren`t following the rules..

The guy from Fort Myers learned that lesson the hard way!

Fort Myers? Is that the mortgage guy Bill Buress?  There was a pattern of hate speech, I believe.  It was not an isolated incident.

The blogger who was sued Louis L??? is being sued.... I forget the story... he was NOT even with the brokerage with the initials when he wrote the first post?  EWH?  EHW?  The brokerage with deep pockets.... but he went with them, then the lawsuit was filed (he had blogged about the developer again while with the new company?) and now he is with a third brokerage?  Hard to keep up with.

I don't know whether I would expect the company to defend him because of the timing.
