50-degree days in the middle of November are a great relief from the second snow of the season in the city.  The snowstorm on Veteran’s Day this year provided everyone with a snowy and icy yard.  If you were so unlucky as to not have picked up your leaves yet, those became frozen, wet and clumped together.  Days like today are great for thawing out the sidewalk you may have not shoveled first thing in the morning.  In our Denver property management tenant newsletters, we always remind our tenants of the little minor things they must remember to do when living in a house in winter.  Many of our tenants have been in single family houses for a while, so this should come as common sense, but we have many people moving from townhomes and condos as well as from warmer parts of the country.  For anyone who has not yet lived in a cold state, Denver, it can be commonplace to forget to detach the hose bib from the spigot for the winter.  It can be misleading when it is a nice sunny day in Denver, and the temperature drops down into the 20’s at night.  You may feel compelled to get your lawn a little extra water, but that is not something you should do during the winter, regardless of how warm and sunny it feels.  The same goes for snow shoveling on the day the snow is falling.  You will want to get out there first thing and make sure its clear while the snow is light and powdery.  Letting it go all day will let everyone drive and walk over it, making it hard and solid and icy.  Then if you try to scrape later in the evening, you will be at it for far too long.  It gets icy quick if it’s been trampled on all day.  So just be prepared and wake up a little earlier on those snow days so you can shovel before you must leave for work.  And as always, Blue Olive Properties is your one stop shop for all Denver property management services and related news.
