Throwback Thursdays - A Bonnet Hair Dryer

This is a blast from the past. For those of you that remember the 50's and 60's when this modern convenience came along it was a blessing. Sleeping in curlers was no fun and actually hurt. Hot air in a Bonnet saved us from hours of natural air drying and helped us look our best. The bonnet hair dryer saved so much time and had us girls out the door pretty as can be. This was an item on many a teenage girl's Christmas list.

Bonnet dryer

Today, it would be torture having hot air blowing around my head. Today I am so thankful for blow dryers, curling irons and flat irons instead.

I don't think I have ever seen one of those, but I have seen the hair dryers in the salons and I assume this is similar to that.

Oh boy do I remember those. And you could take them to your girlfriend's house for a PJ party, too. I hated sleeping in rollers, and I did not like the Spoolies at all -- remember those rubber twisty torture chambers?

In fact, I dislike fussing with my hair. I straighten it with an electronic straightening brush after blowdrying with my Dyson (which is fabulous, btw, although a bit spendy), and it's too much work. Why-oh-why-oh-why?

I don't even brush my hair when I'm in Hawaii. I wake up with it in a tangled mess and I scoop it up in a hair clip on top of my head and let the curls and frizz fall where they may. THAT my friend is freedom. Blow dryers are not freedom.

Thanks, Debbie, for sharing some of you hair drying memories.

I am sure you also remember the hair tonics used by many men.
