I just bought a new phone with a 30-day trial with Sprint and I'm having mixed feelings now. I got the Palm Centro. It is a very nice phone but there is one big problem with it. The battery drains so quickly that I seemed to be constantly charging it. I don't even use the web that often and the battery still drains fast.

Does anyone else have a recommendation? I may look at the 3 phones below as a possible switch over if I don't like the Palm Centro.

BLACKBERRY

The Blackberry Pearl looks nice and slim but I heard the Suretype keyboard takes time to get used to. The Blackberry Curve also looks good but a little bigger than the Pearl. Does anyone use one of these and what is your opinion of it? Is it true that you cannot transfer Contact info from another phone into the BB? That would be a big drawback if that is the case since I have alot of contacts on the phone. Below are some cons about the BB.

Cons:

No picture messaging

Can't separate your call log

Cannot transfer contact info into phone from other phones

Some complaints about the trackball

Pros:

Thin and small

Better speakerphone (from what I heard)

PALM

I saw the Palm Treo 755p and it looked rather bulky.

Cons:

Bulky looking

Pros:

Lockbox accessible

Picture messaging

Can separate your call log

Can transfer phone contact into the phone

12 Comments on ** Palm Centro: VERY LOW on BATTERY!!

Have you bought a new battery and tried that?  I had a battery that drained quite quickly on my Trio, I bought a new one and, viola, the charge lasted well over two days!

In our area sprint doesn't have good coverage at all.  I have a blackberry curve with AT&T and we also get a corporate discount (which they'll set up for any small business) of 8% and right now you can get a Blackberry curve for $49.99 (I love my curve) or a free razor.  I've been with AT&T for a while, my son is with sprint and hates it.

I purchased a Red Centro about 2 months ago. I love it. My battery lasts almost all day, even when I use the MP3 player all day. I have a car charger for the days I forget to charge it. It sounds like it might be your battery.

Virginia, thanks for the input. I have not bought a new battery for it. I used the one that came from the box and I thought that should be sufficient. Did you buy the extended battery life one?

June, the BB Curve for $49 is a really good deal. Sprint offers it for $179 after the $100 mail in rebates.

Eduardo, what kind of battery do you have? Did you use the one that came in the box or did you buy a new extended battery? The one I have is new and came from the box.

You are right. It is very low on battery on the Palm Centro. I have been using it alot lately and it definitely is drained out by mid-afternoon.

Loreena, I thought I was the only one with the problem. It is one of the worst phones due to its VERY LOW battery life.

I brought a Palm Centro last night at Radio Shack for $49.00 and it is morning now and I am on my way back to Radio Shack to get the Backberry curve for the same price, the screen stop working and I had to take the battery out to get it working again and the battery is at half after charging over night. The key pad is to small so Blackberry here I come LOL.

Derek, I do agree that the keypad is so small on the Centro. It is difficult when the screen start locking up as well.

I'm taking my Blackberry back to get a Palm again.  Loved my 650 for 2 years - although I did have to take battery out and put back in torwards the end few times a day-it was just wearing out.

Iphone is not for a business user.  I tried it and took it back after a week.

Blackberry - if you have Vista and more than 3 sophisticated programs on your computer, good luck on getting the Desktop Manager installed.  Just put that in a google search and you'll be amazed what comes up.  I also don't like my text messages all mixed up with my emails.

I agree about the Iphone not being the best choice for business users. There are a few good and bad things about the BB. However, from what I've heard it works really great as far as business use is concerned.
