Ten days after a forest fire ignited in Paradise, Northern California, the fire razed 149,500 acres in Butte County. After some gallant fire fighting involving many out of the area and state firefighters, it is now 60% contained (11/18/2018) the rest fire will not be eradidated until end of the month 11/30/18 (expected).
The following is the situation as of Sunday AM 11/18:
Civilian Fatalities: 76, Firefighter Injuries: 3; Structures Affected: 15,500
Single residences destroyed: 9,700 family residences; 297 Multi-family residences destroyed: commercial building destroyed: 367 damaged: 73.
Smoke from the wildfires 250 miles north of San Francisco created air quality levels in the Bay Area to the same unhealthy level as China's highly polluted capital Beijing at 250 parts per million. It sent Californians to hospital emergency rooms and causing schools to shut down. Local drug stores have an alloated two masks per customer. Try online stores. There is a delay and shortage.
The wild fire will have a long lasting effect on residents causing allergy, ound that during smoke-dense periods, there was a significant increase in emergency room visits for heart attack, stroke and respiratory infection. I had to confine staying in door and avoid outside walking. Allergy pills were used to control my breathing. I have been lucky as I have an out of the area appointment. So it is not as so unbearable as those who are stuck there.
