Sister Bay Prepares to Capture the Spirit
of a Door County Christmas
One of our favorite holidays (Thanksgiving, with much to be thankful about in 2018) leads directly into one of our favorite Door County festivals, Sister Bay's "Capture the Spirit" celebration in preparation of the upcoming December and January holidays.
Thanksgiving in Door County
We've been watching the Village employees prepare the streets around the village, as well as the village businesses, begin preparations for this two-day holiday event immediately following Thanksgiving Day. And Thanksgiving remains a BUSY holiday weekend in Door County--most of the establishments serving Thanksgiving Dinner have stopped taking reservations--they are full--time to think Christmas if you were thinking about dining at the Harbor Fish Market & Grill in Baileys Harbor (one of the best holiday meals around) or Alexander's in Fish Creek (delicious!)--both establishments are no longer to taking reservations at the time of publication on Thanksgiving Day because they are full.
Even though it's a busy weekend throughout the County (with many visitors taking home their freshly-cut Door County Christmas tree this weekend), Sister Bay takes a special approach, with a community tree lighting, visits with Santa, a special craft fair, and fun for the entire family.
The events begin at twilight the day after Thanksgiving. As dusk approaches late Friday afternoon, luminaires fill the streets under the village's rustic street lights downtown, creating a soft glow. Santa Clause will help the Village light the tree, while carols are sung by all. Afterward, many of the local businesses have special treats available, as well as holiday sales in place so you can start your Christmas list, including On Deck in Sister Bay, as well as the shops at The Country Walk on the top of the Sister Bay Hill (where we have a fantastic Sister Bay retail space available on the market for your future Sister Bay business!).

The events are truly family-friendly, with many coming from all over the Peninsula (and the state and the world) to enjoy the festivities.
Earlier in the day, you'd be able to catch some wonderful and creative hand-made gifts, from soups to personalized ornaments, at the Capture the Spirit Holiday Art Fair, at the Village Hall, which also serves lunch on Friday and Saturday. This is a place I love to visit annually to find unique gifts that I can use year-round, from incredible photography used on personalized cards to knit-wear.
