2018 was dubbed as the most destructive wildfire season on record in California. It has also been the deadliest the state has ever recorded, incinerating the town of Paradise and displacing more than 50,000 residents as other blazes continued to rage farther south.
As the fires continue, the air quality in the Northern and Central Valley show heightened amounts of air pollutants around July and August. Now, most cities in the Bay area shows toxicity of bad air.
Many of us are working from home, staying inside as much as possible, and delaying scheduled events until the weather improves. Teary eyes, tightness in the chest and headaches have been the symptoms I have noticed most on the days I am out for more than an hour. Today, masks were back in stock and I plan to wear mine when I am out and about. On Wednesday, we are expecting rain which should be a great help.
Our hearts go out to all of the people who have been affected. Many Bay Area residents have left town for the holidays either to Southern CA, Lake Tahoe, Nevada, or have decided to travel internationally.
The bay area continues to be a popular place to call home.
