Buying or selling a home is an incredibly stressful process. In fact, it can be as stressful as other major life events, such as getting a divorce or having a baby. The process of buying or selling a house tends to be long and daunting. Your house is likely your biggest asset, something you've invested a lot of time and money into. What you get out of selling your current home may even impact what type of home you can purchase next. Additionally, if you've lived in your home for years, you may have developed an emotional attachment to it; it can be difficult moving away from a home where you've created a lot of memories. Try using these methods of stress management to reduce your stress level when you're buying or selling a home.

Find a Trustworthy Realtor: Your realtor can either increase or reduce your stress, so it's essential to find one you can trust. A good realtor will value your time, goals, and input. Your realtor is responsible for marketing your house, negotiating deals, giving you the knowledge you need to make informed decisions, and guarding your interests. Find a realtor you can communicate with easily and has your best interests in mind.

Exercise: You know that regular exercise is beneficial to your health, but you feel you're too busy to make time for it in your daily routine. The good news is that nearly any type of exercise is effective for reducing stress. Exercise releases endorphins in your brain, boosting your mood. Additionally, exercise may improve your sleep, which can be negatively impacted by stress. When you exercise, you may find yourself forgetting about your worries as well.

Try going for a walk after dinner in the evening. Do some yoga stretches first thing in the morning. Play a game of basketball with your kids. Swim some laps in the pool. Find a form of exercise you enjoy, and try to engage in it at least five times a week.

Tap Into Your Social Support System: Your social support system are the family members and friends you can rely upon in times of stress. Research indicates that having a social support system provides many benefits including the ability to cope effectively with stressful situations, improving self-esteem, promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and relieving the effects of emotional distress.

When you're feeling overwhelmed with the process of buying or selling a home, pick up the phone for a quick chat with a friend. Go get coffee with your sister. Take a walk with a neighbor. Plan an evening out with a few friends.

Eat a Healthy Diet: Your diet can have an impact on how stressed out and anxious you feel. Mood changes may be caused by dehydration, low blood sugar, and the artificial flavorings, colorings, and preservatives in processed foods. A diet high in sugar can also impact your mood.

When you're stressed, you might be tempted to reach for carbohydrates for a good reason; carbohydrates can help your brain produce serotonin, a neurotransmitter that promotes a feeling of well-being. Instead of reaching for sugary carbohydrates, though, like doughnuts, try eating complex carbohydrates, such as those found in oatmeal.

If you have a sweet tooth, dark chocolate is known to help reduce stress. Research indicates that a few bites of dark chocolate can decrease your levels of stress hormones including cortisol. Dark chocolate also possesses unique natural substances that produce a feeling of euphoria that is similar to the feeling of being in love.

Buying or selling a home is a long and daunting process that many people find incredibly stressfull. By taking care of yourself and using these tips, you can help reduce your stress levels during the process.
