Throwback Thursday: Parasailing in St. Martin

When we lived in Boston we took a winter vacation every year, almost always to St. Martin.

One year, perhaps 20 or so years ago, we took our 2 daughters to St. Martin for the New Year's holiday. We had a fabulous time overall, and my older daughter and I went parasailing one day - that's us (a non-digital, and not-so-clear, photo taken by my wife on the beach); I have some photos somewhere that I took when up in the air. The views were amazing at about 100 feet.

The trip was somewhat marred by an island-wide power failure about midway through dinner on New Year's Eve, several days into our visit, at a wonderful restaurant we dined at often. It took several days for all the power to come back on which was a bit challenging around food, lights, and AC! It was one of our more memorable New Year's!

I have a few great memories of New Year's, mostly spending the evening with good friends. I likely would not have gone parasailing if my daughter weren't there.

I wish the quality of the photo was better, and that I could find the ones I took in the air! It was definitely an adventuresome week.

St. Martin is beautiful and we always enjoyed our trips, and the French dining, both casual and fine. So sad to see what happened with the hurricane back in September 2017 - much of what we knew - hotels, restaurants - seems to have been destroyed although perhaps some of that has been rebuilt since that time.

Hi Kathy Streib Memorable indeed. But all in all it wasn't bad and we enjoyed our trip with the girls.

We spent a week in Cancun in 2007, I think, and 2 days after arriving a hurricane passed off the coast and we spent 5 days in the room because of heavy wind and rain. Another not-so-fond memory!
