I do not have any pets but when we were growing up we had a dog. I have never had a cat so I do not know much about cats.
The other day I was reading the carrier pigeon and I saw the following,
A dog has a master , A cat has a staff. I do not know who wrote this.
I believe that whether it is a dog or a cat. they are the masters in most homes.
National Cat day is October 29 in United states. and International cat day is August 8.
August 26 is National Dog Day.
What is your experience?.

I have had both cats and dogs. One of the reasons we do not have a dog is that they are higher maintenance than a cat. And with our travel schedule, it is easier for us. A
Cats are simply not as needy. Dogs want your attention while (most) cats can take it or leave it, as long as you feed them and pet them when they want to be fed or petted.
Some dogs have masters. (I know this because I've read about it.) 
I believe ours are like cats. Although we do expect them to follow a few basic rules, like staying out of the trash and coming when called - they do have staff.

Dogs listen and obey, for the most part, their masters. Cats listen to no one and do their own thing. Our cat Charlotte runs our home. Charlotte employs myself and my husband as her "staff" to tend too her every want and need. Mostly wants 
Hi Gita- I've had both dogs and cats but primarily dogs. I think some cats don't care if you're there or not as long as they have food and water...or unless they want you around. Dogs, on the other hand, love you unconditionally and will take as much attention as you want to give them.
Gita! What a cute post and I think you are right... the house dog or cat is the master or mistress of the house!
I don't have any pets either, Gita. But this certainly appears to be true with all of my neighbors.
Gita, From my experience, dogs tend to enjoy having a master. Cats generally have a friend/master and will accommodate their master when they know it is in their best interest.
My cats rule the house that is for sure! I am blessed to have them though!
