I do not know who started this or when they first named December 24 as ' National fruitcake Day ' . I read about it in the carrier Pigeon , a monthly free magazine that I receive last year.. Check out www.theuptightsuburbanite.com. It is interesting to see that they have something for each day of the month of December . Not a fan of fruit cake...However, it reminds of the first story that Truman Capote wrote about helping his aunt make fruitcake, and then always sending one to the President...for Christmas. A

I missed this celebration. It reminds me of the fruit cakes made by my grandmother when I was a kid.
I don't mind a fruitcake that is a cake, Gita. But, I'll pass on the fruitcakes that are people.
