'Baby It's Cold Outside' Banned on US Radio Stations
You know...this is just out of hand. That is down right ridiculious..
'Baby It's Cold Outside' Banned on US Radio Stations
*NOTE: This is NOT a political post - it's merely a common sense assessment of a perceived public problem!
Taking offense to the lyrics of this song shows how overly sensitive people have become in the US today. We all need to get used to the fact that there will always be things that may be offensive at every turn - it's called life!
Will the newest generation even understand the old adage, “Sticks & stones may break my bones, but words will never hurt me?” I suppose in 1862 (when this phrase was coined), children didn’t an entire society who would disallow songs that may offend them!
"What's in this drink?" (the quote in question from the song) is actually NOT asking if there are 'roofies' in the drink. In fact, Rohypnol, the drug we call 'roofies,' was not even developed until the 1970’s. In the movie, the wife is trying to find an excuse to stay with her husband. The phrase used to be used to make excuses to blame alcohol, now we’ve moved to 'roofies,' which weren’t even in existence when the song was written.
The husband is trying to convince HIS WIFE to stay…and get this - she wants to! Then, they reverse roles and SHE tries to convince him to stay...but, baby, it's cold outside!
Could naysayers at least do some research before banning a popular holiday song that we have enjoyed for decades?
Enjoy the song video - I know I will be playing it this holiday season, as I always do!
*This is original footage from Neptune's Daughter, a 1949 musical romantic comedy, written in 1944 by Frank Loesser. It was written for his wife, Lynn Garland, and himself to sing at a housewarming party in New York City at the Navarro Hotel. They sang the song to indicate to guests that the party was over - it was time to leave!
Reading any more into this is such a shame…and once again, an attempt to rewrite history. Even if it’s film & music history, it’s important to let history remain exactly what it is.
