Ok everyone I am writing this for two reasons! First because I have a feeling the "Title" will gain me lots of comments! Second because it's true and maybe someone will find it helpful!

I know I know your thinking what is it??? First of all no liquid calories!!! Moderation, and exercise excercise, thats it!

Three years ago I went on a medication which caused me to gain 20lbs in 1 year! I freaked out and decided to lose it the old fashioned way, yuck! diet and exercise.

So no liquid calories means don't waste your calories on soft drinks throughout the day instead switch to water or maybe tea with no sugar of course! maybe a little splenda is okay, and well a glass or two of red wine never hurts at the end of a hard day! LOL

No more white bleached flour instead limit your carbs some (moderation) and eat whole grain only and lots of fiber too is great. Eat low fat but not no fat, if you limit all of your fat you will find yourself starving even when your stomach is full, besides our skin and hair needs a little good fat like olive oil. Tons of fresh fruits and vegies, and oh yeah, count your calories find out what your ideal calorie intake is for losing at a reasonable rate not to fast or you will gain it all back because your body feels starved and then you overeat to compensate. And meat is fine just choose lower fat meats, moderation again.

Next hit the gym! Strength training is important for everyone! I always see women come in and only do cardio they think thats enough, well it is very healthy for you but strength training helps as you age with keeping your bones strong and it also helps keep you firm so don't skip it. Try to work out at least four or five times a week.

Vitamins are good too, but be careful and be selective because most of the ones you buy are made from chemicals and cannot be absorbed by the body I take a liquid organic supplement called Vemma.

This of course is only an opinion but it did work for me and I feel soooo much better. I know your thinking I already knew this! You probably did but everyone always asks me how I lost weight like I must have had some magic pill or something but really it's obvious how anyone loses weight but sometimes we just need to hear it again.

Good information. I drink a lot of wtare and watch my calories. I have lost about 15-20 pounds this year and have kept it off. The workouts are key because once you ad muscle mass you start to burn the calories faster.

05/30/2008 07:48 PM by Chuck Carstensen (Re/max Associates Plus/The Discovery Coach)

Nannette thank you!! We all need continued support since this is a life long thing! Isn't that key? You are so right, it's not like you lose the weight and then you go back to life as it was we have to keep it up!

Chuck, awesome! I totally agree about muscle mass too and I thought I would die without coke and I hated water but I don't even miss it anymore! I love a bottle of water now!

I find that if I limit myself to one Donut a day, weight loss is just around the corner. Happy pound dumping.

Jennifer, great comments, thanks.  I know so many people who make up excuses as to why they CAN"T exercise: _it's too hard  _i have high blood pressure(yeah, there's a reason for that)  _ i dont' have time _ i hate gyms _i'm too shy...

As an avid gym attendee (5 time a week) and former Pt trainer, I believe in the power of exercise, and the power it gives you (lower weight, lower blood pressure, more flexibliity, more energy in dealing with clients and work in general...)

I firmly believe that customers read a lot into first impressions.  That includes how healthy we appear.  I also firmly believe that clients will assume you have more energy to work hard for them if you can at least climb the stairs without gasping for breath.

Of couse with some exceptions (those with medical conditions that prohibit certain activities) EVERYONE has time to exercise, even if they don't go to a gym.  EVERYONE can park a bit further out and walk to the door of the grocery store (and then walk your own groceries back to the car). EVERYONE can find ways to exercise at home (crunches, situps, jogging in place, rubberbands, walking around the block, walkikg the dog, etc...) and EVERYONE can make wiser eating choices.

These are the keys to loosing weight and staying healthy.  Once you begin, it becomes a part of your lifestyle.  Once you see the weight fall off, and the muscle build, you want to keep it up.

Like the ad says, "diet's don't work"... never have, never will.

Disclaimer: if exercising is new to you, simply ask your doctor first .  ALso, if you're diabetic or have other dietary issues, ask your docter.

Here's to health, in business and in life !!!  :)

One more thing! I would recommend everyone invest in a personal trainer if at all possible, it is very helpful to get you going and to teach you how to break up your exercise by muscle group for maximum results!

That sounds like good advice Jennifer.  You look great....but you did last year too.

Jennifer I have started the Juice Plus Fitness Challenge .  It is not but $43.00 bucks a month and I have a personal trainer.  I really need the accountability.  I believe you really have to find what will work for you.  Everyone is different and there are many ways to get in shape.  The foundation is basically the same.  Losing weight and getting healthy begins in the mind.

Jennifer, good tips. My problem is I can drop 15lbs in a blink. Now I am trying to now gain weight I have lost. One blogger told me to try milkshakes and beer. Not only would I put on weight, but I would be happy. :)  (Sorry. I am not helping your cause. I guess someone has to torture others in the world.)
