What is Social Media and How Do You Measure ROI (Return on Investment?)

It's only been in the last few weeks that I have begun to dig my teeth

into the whole world of Social Media - like Active Rain, Linked In and Facebook, just to name a few. I'm trying to understand all of it and also what's the point, other than allowing a frustrated writer an outlet. I have seen two recent articles that talk about not only Social Media but also the ROI on the efforts. The first article talks solely about the ROI of blogging and the other discusses what Social Media is, gives you some things to think about and also discusses ROI.

It seems to me that understanding the ROI as well as the fundamentals of Social Media should be important as I move into this Brave New World of Social Media, and I greatly appreciate the information provided to this newbie.

What are your thoughts on the ROI?

I think its like any other avenue of marketing. The key will be focus and consistency. For example, If I Farmed a certain city, Lets say Costa Mesa, I would be consistent on blogging on homes, updates, etc in the Costa Mesa area.

That way you get business from clients who are lookng in the city as well as other agents that can refer you business knowing you are the area specialist

Hi Christine,

I too am here for ROI. My goal is to improve my search engine ratings and drive folks to my website which is under-utilized. The appeal of blogging for me, is two-fold. First, it's free, and since my resources are limited, it allows me to do what I can to drive my business without great expense. Second, it allows me to target my message to any number of groups (attorneys for instance, who might utilize my Mobile Notary Services throughout Southern California) or individuals. I also, am one of those frustrated writers who needs an outlet occassionally.

Shannon - You're reasoning makes a lot of sense, and I hope you'll find it successful. As a mobile notary, you have appeal to a number of different groups, a lot of which are on Active Rain.
