Kindness Inspires Me…
A wonderful December Challenge by Carol Williams is to share a quote that inspires us. It is a tough choice because there are many quotes, lines, and sayings that have always inspired me.
However what immediately came to my mind was this quote by the Dalai Lama.
Be kind whenever possible.
It is always possible.
Something I’ve always believed is that we all have choices. We may not always like them but they are our choices nevertheless.
Being kind doesn’t mean being a pushover or letting others walk over us.
It means recognizing and taking into consideration the feelings of others.
Choose kindness in how you treat others.
There are times when, as my husband likes to say, I can be as mean as a snake. I will admit to that. But this quote is always in my mind.
Choose kindness.
And when I think about it, what’s to be gained by doing or saying hurtful things. Yes, there is a momentary feeling of gotcha. But is that who we want to be?
When we’re that person, we not only hurt someone else, but we put a dent in our own character.
The notion of being kind hit home with me today (December 5) as I listened to the service for President George H.W. Bush in Washington. Politics aside, he lived the kind of life that this quote speaks of.
