This meme is here because Jo Soss tagged me.  The last few times I got tagged, I said "Cool, I'll do it later..." and I kind of forgot.

THIS POST HAS NO IMAGES BECAUSE I DIDN'T FEEL LIKE MAKING ANY, NOR DID I FEEL LIKE GETTING SUED (thanks to TLW and others for that.)

1. Who is your favorite musical artist?
That depends on my mood.  My tastes in music are extremely eclectic and broad.  I love everything from ragtime to blues to swing, to do-wop, country (only till sometime in the early 90's though).  I may listen to Bing Crosby or Judy Garland, Dean Martin or Sammy Davis Jr...  I like stuff from the 70s like The Village People, or the 80s like Queen, Abba, Hall and Oates...CCR, ZZTop, The Eagles, Tony Orlando (and Dawn), BJ Thomas, Barry Manilow, Hank Williams, Kenny Rogers, Dolly Parton, Carly Simon, Roberta Flack, Aretha, Johnny Rivers, Bill Haley...get my drift?

Overall though, I guess my top artists are Simon & Garfunkel, Neil Diamond, and late Christian artist Keith Green.  His music is honest, probing, and beautifully sincere.  My favorite female vocalist is without a doubt Twila Paris...I have never heard a more beautiful, sweet, lilting voice in my life.  Like Keith Green did, she writes most of the music she performs.

2. Who is your favorite artist?
Probably Monet -- my favorite art usually falls under the Impressionist category.  I like anything soft looking - particularly pastels or watercolors.

3. Who is your favorite blogger?  Jennifer Allan, Carnac, TLW, and Broker Bryant.  (I rarely have only one favorite of anything...)

4.  What did you want to be when you grew up?
Everything.  Cop, cruise director, famous soap opera star, famous singer - particularly I wanted to be Conway Twitty's new "Loretta Lynn", my stage name was going to be Texas Austen.  (I can't believe I'm admitting that nonsense.)

5. If you could meet anyone (alive or dead) who would it be and what is the most interesting thing about them?
There are two people I'd like to meet - my biological grandmother, who died from a sleeping pill overdose when my mother was only 8 years old; her name was Elizabeth, which is my middle name.  She emigrated to America with my grandfather from Sweden.

The second person I'd like to meet is my biological mother, who died when I was 18 months old.  She had two terrible falls in one day (one from a horse, and one from the loft in the barn) and she died on the way to the hospital (ruptured spleen.)

Though I was adopted shortly after, I have always, always, always felt that a huge part of who I am is missing, and I have an ache that sometimes surfaces that will just never be fulfilled.  I started bowling because my mother was a bowling champ - I didn't inherit that from her.

6. What is the most interesting piece of trivia you know?

That guy started selling mascara after his sister mixed Vaseline and soot - and he named it after the Vaseline and his sister Mabel....Mabelline.  I don't know that it's the most interesting thing, but it was the only off-beat thing I could think of without looking it up on Wikipedia or something.  I am frightfully good at Jeopardy and certain editions of Trivial Pursuit though...

7.  If you could live in any point in history what would it be and why?
1920-1960.  Great music, great clothes, great decor.  Lots of drastic and world-rocking changes.  Love that time period.

8.  What is the most interesting job you have ever held? Paying or non –paying?
Clearly it is my current career - nothing, I tell you nothing is as unpredictable, scary, exhilarating, exhausting, or rewarding as real estate.  I meet all kinds of people and nearly every day brings something to either challenge, amuse, or terrify me.

If they meme, I'll post their links here.

A meme (meem) is a blog designed to reveal a little about yourself that others probably won't know.  I like reading people's memes and getting to know them more.  After you write yours, you tag others to write something.  Then read their memes, and read the memes of the memes they memed...it's rather viral.

Okay, I couldn't resist.  Here is a picture I took today.

Karen, I learned a lot about you.  I like this current meme going around.  I did one earlier today myself.  I love the picture!!!  What a bony cow; not really skinny though, just bony.

Karen, awesome MeMe! The story about your Mother and Grandmother are just so sad. I am sure they have watched you grow each day - they are with you.

05/30/2008 09:28 PM by Jo Soss | Bremerton WA Real Estate (Skyline Properties, Inc.)

Marchel, I was just heading over to read your meme (that's why I didn't tag you, I saw you wrote one! LOL).  It's true, that cow is really BONY!  And it kept staring at me (I was quite a ways away) and looked like it was deciding whether or not to bolt.  LOL

Jo - sometimes I just can't help myself and I have this terrible feeling of loss for something I never had.  Most of the time I don't think about it, but other times, it's almost overwhelming.  But hey, what can you do.

Karen  What an awesome and honest MEME!  Thanks for sharing.

Your photo reminds me of Hey Cow.  Hey Cow is a game that my friends and I made up in college.  We were driving around one day and there were a lot of cows in the pastures that lined the highway.  Some one in the car rolled down a window and screamed "Hey Cow."  For every cow that turned its head to look at us we considered that one point.  It became one of our favorite things to do.  You wouldn't be surprised to know I went to college in Arkansas  ;)

Karen - well done!  And nice to get to know you a little.  We have a few things in common and I can't wait to tell my daughters the Maybelline trivia.

Anthony - My son-in-law, from Chicago plays Hey Cow with his friends in the military. I thought HE invented it.

Wonderful MEME, Karen.  Saw your invite on Naymz and though I knew who you were, I had to come here and get to know you better by reading more of your blog posts.  Lo and behold, the first thing I see is this MEME.

How nice, that even though you were adopted, you know of your biological family.  One day, you'll meet again - but don't rush it!

Karen, I feel I got to know you better.  Nice meme. I always enjoy your posts and was disappointed when you mentioned you would not post any pictures and am glad you did . I love all the pictures of your area. Reading about your mother and grandmother made me sad.

Thanks for tagging me. I will get to it soon.

Thanks for sharing your stuff.

Karen - I see this phenomenon reached out to you as well!  I agree with ya, would have loved to live in the 1920-1960 time frame.  As far as the picture, you MEME'D Rob Robinson, I'm sure he will address it then:-)

05/31/2008 06:50 PM by Jason Sardi, Pennsylvania Mortgage Broker (First Choice Equity Group Inc.)

Texas, I mean Karen, I love your Meme.  How in depth and honest it is.  mine was too short and to the point, well I guess that is like me?  Simon and Garfunkel, grew up to them, love that music and know every word.  Love the cow, looks like she needs to eat some potatoes!!

Take some time to rejuvinate. It gets to all of us.  You have a wonderful spirit - let it shine through!

Hi Karen - Nice to know a little more about you! I need to make my new MEME too - ARRGGH!

06/01/2008 01:45 PM by Bill Gassett Metrowest Massachusetts Real Estate (RE/MAX Executive Realty)

Karen...

First of all I'm LMAO at #4. I can't believe you're admitting that either :)

Secondly...You and I have that biological thing with family in common. I would like to meet my biological Father. It's a long story...But I will share...All I know is that he was a Polish Milkman :)

Now I bet that one cracked you up :)

TLW...ROAR!

Looks like you have a lot of the same musical tastes as me. I have to say I was touched by who you wanted to meet dead or alive. I'm sorry you never got to meet her and hopefully your grandfather gave you a lot of stories of the good times.

06/02/2008 12:06 AM by Todd Clark (Realtor), GRI (Your Washington Co. Real Estate Expert) (Kastings & Associates)

Good morning, friends!  Thank you all for the warm response to my Super MEME.

Anthony, I've played "Hey Cow" but didn't have a name for it.  My daughter wondered if saying MOOO was an insult to cows.  LOL

Virginia - I thought the Maybelline tidbit was interesting.

Thesa - I saw you had already been tagged by someone so I didn't tag you too.  :-)  You know what they say about great minds.

Nancy - I'm sure since my adoptive family lived right up the road from where we were, they felt it was wisest to tell me up front that I was adopted, since local gossip would get to me eventually.  Plus, they wanted me to have that connection to my brother and my grandfather (my brother stayed with him after our mother died and our real father took off for parts unknown.)

Gita - thank you and I look forward to your Meme!

Maureen - it's okay if you dn't meme...I know it can get out of hand after a while!  LOL  Thanks for the nice words..

Karen - I loved your meme...  Watching the Love Boat growing up made working on a cruise ship look fun, it seems like a lot of work now.  Hey, that cow looks hungry.

Thanks for sharing Karen. It's always fun to learn more about your colleagues. Now I have to get busy writing.....

I'm working on my meme Karen... I can justify it and YOU are special...

06/02/2008 08:56 AM by Maureen McCabe - Central Ohio real estate (Real Living HER)

I'm very ashamed that I did not get back in here to reply to the rest of your lovely comments and to reciprocate.  I hope you'll all forgive me -

This week, our office moved, I got a new home listing, a new land listing, put a home under contract, watched a deal fall apart, am trying to keep another deal together - you know, the typical stuff that I signed up for when I started down this roller coaster career.

Jason - glad you agree on the time period - totally mod, ya know?  I think I especially love the music from then- particularly swing/big band.

Audrey - would you believe I totally forgot about my "stage name" until I was writing my meme?  LOL  I think I suppressed it on purpose!  LOL

Tracy - I'm nothing if not transparent - I have been told not to let SO MUCH shine thru at once.  LOL

06/04/2008 10:28 AM by Karen Rice | Lake Wallenpaupack | Pike & Wayne County, Northeast PA Homes (WEICHERT, REALTORS® Paupack Group )

Bill - did you do it yet?  I'll visit your blog and see!

TLW - so what's funnier, the stage name, or my fixation with Conway Twitty?  ROFL

A Polish Milkman - hmmm!  Is there any way you could ever find him?  For me it was very much a closed door, since everyone except my brother, and a few scattered step-relatives are all gone.  :-(

Todd - thank you.  My grandfather meant the world to me.  He passed away when I was 13, and unfortunately, I had only just begun to develop an interest in the things he had to say about life and the world.  He never, ever spoke to me about my mother though.  She was his only child (apart from 3 step children) and I don't think he ever recovered from her death.  To this day, I love the aroma of a cigar, because it reminds me of him.

Debbie - yes, I think The Love Boat had a lot of young ladies desiring romance and fun on the high seas as Julie McCoy seemed to experience...

Maureen - I'll get that meme link posted today!

Hi Karen,

Interesting meme, reading your musical favorites was like a flashback in time of bad hair and clothes. I think I still have some of those big collars in polyester, (lol).

I've added Maureen McCabe's Meme:

http://activerain.com/blogsview/532107/Meme-rhymes-with-theme

THanks Maureen!

Lynda, thanks for commenting - fortunately, I've blocked out most of the 70's clothes (I do remember wearing hideous plaid pants to school though).  My dad, however, kept the 70's very much alive with his "dress" clothes - his dress shirts screamed 1972.  Needless to say, I ususally preferred if he wore his work clothes out - Dickies and flannel shirts never go out of style.

Karen~ wonderful meme!  I was really touched by the story of your biological mom- that was so sad.  Thank you for tapping me for a Meme, I hope to sit down soon to do it.

thanks for the link to my post.

I think only two of the people I have tagged have posted a meme.  I think it is easy to put off and forget.
