Easy & Inexpensive DIY Christmas Decorating Ideas

By
Home Stager with Sharon Tara Transformations

The holidays are a very busy time for everyone,

so I will keep this Christmas decor tip very short and simple...

Rather than throw away (or donate) your old Christmas decorations, sometimes you can still use them if you give them a new look.

I was visiting my parents in Florida recently and I found a sad looking old Christmas wreath and small stash of ornaments in their garage.

Dad was planning on throwing them away.

Arts and Crafts time!

The wreath had factory attached lights on it that no longer worked

so Dad's job was to remove them.

Once Dad was done with the lights, I used wire to clump together the ornaments and attached them to the wreath.

Now, instead of going in the trash, their new wreath is on the front door.

Good for you Sharon. Thanks for taking the time to repurpose an old wreath. Too often we think the answer is to discard something. I love that you and your Dad worked on it together too.  To me, that is the most special aspect of it.

You are so artsy and creative!  Even though I may never try one of your artsy projects, I still enjoy seeing what you have done!

My husband just finished attaching new lights to our old "wire" tree and reindeer. What a job! Just cutting all the old lights off took hours.

But now - when the sun goes down the lights come on and I get a treat out my kitchen window.

Recycle and re-purpose are two words that are epitomized in your post. Your creativity gave new life to stale decorations.

Sharon, what's more odd than the artistic ability to refurbish a Florida wreath? To do it without the aid of a hammer. Merry Christmas to you and your family!

Marte Cliff  Well worth the effort! Easy for me to say. LOL

John Juarez  Thank you! I enjoy using whatever is available whenever possible.

That is one of my favorite parts of owner occupied home staging consults!

Kevin J. May There were no hammers harmed in the repurposing of this wreath! LOL

Kat Palmiotti  At the very least I told Dad he could sell it if we fixed it up. For all I know that is what he did with it after I left. LOL
