It's fun to watch all of the different real estate agent personalities here on Active|Rain. Some of us are assertive, some laid back. Some focus on localism information, some focus on information for other agents. Some are organized, some not-so-organized. Etc. From a client's perspective, we must have a million different personalities, goals, and levels of professionalism. Your web site should be an extension of YOUR business and should carry your image on it.

If agents want to connect with potential clients there is no better way than through their web site. Take advantage of your creative liberty to make a very professional, personalized site to strike a chord with your users and you will see the benefits as they convert to YOUR clients.

Also, do not stop with one website. Now a days how many sites link to yours has a lot to do with how well traversed your website will be. One big thing you can do to help drive traffic to your website (though less dramatic through the SE's) is to have high quality inbound links. One great way to get those, is to have more than one website and to have more than one blog, and to have all of those linking to each other. I would also recommend that you submit your site at least once a month to all of the search engines that are relevant. If you don't do SEO and don't want to hire out for it, then you need to get some software to help you. i use and recommend IBP 9.5 (Internet Business Promoter 9.5). This helps you to stay on top of things as if SEO was your job!!

Thanks for the comment. Believe it or not, submitting to a search engine may get you little value. Search engine spiders want to find your site through natural links on other web sites. Just having your site link on A|R is a huge plus. I looked into IBP sometime ago and found that someone still has to do the work. IBP won't write your content and it won't create inbound links. It is a good tool to find out where you stand but a webmaster or his developer still has to do the work.

It is a little tough getting your site to the top.  Like Elizabeth and Justin said, using something for search engin optimization it a great idea.

For instant results, you can always use pay per click advertising - both Google and Yahoo let you define geographical areas and set budgets for your ads.  You can determine the cost of your ad by what keyword is typed and they also give you a rough idea of where your ad will show when specific keywords are typed.

 Good luck to all!

PPC is a great alternative to SEO. You either pay for it in time or money. Either you do the work, someone else does it, or you pay for your position. If your site convert leads well any of these can work well.
