Holiday Help....Hunger Knows no Season

By

If you called the Food Pantry closest to your home, you may be surprised how many families are served by that facility. It could be a city or county food pantryor other non profit organization's service center. It is beyond most people's imagination to know how it would feel to go to bed hungry....to ration food ...to portion it carefully among family members to be sure everyone was served some sort of meal.
Many agents...and lenders...have "geographic farms" and regularly communicate with people in it...their own sub division,  a popular area for sales...however you wish to define it.  Restaurants use the expression "farm to table"  to describe the use of locally grown food for items on their menu. Let's give that farm to tableterm a new meaning for application in real estate farms.  Tell your farm that you will "harvest" their contributions if they leave them on their porch or at their mailboxes...just send you a text, email or give you a call and you agree to pick up the donation and give back to the local community. Since Food pantries depend largely on volunteers to staff them, their hours are often limited to times that people with 9 to 5 jobs cannot easily accomodate....be their legs ...and harvest your farm .  When you deliver your holiday greetings...let your  farm know their contribution of a non perishable item means a great deal to people in their community.
pasta can Most often requested is a can of pasta with meat that has some protein value...Have fun and theme your farm to table ...Spaghetti Saturday...Pasta Please....whatever you choose.  Let your farm know that this is your "give back" and now you are making it easier for them to make a difference as well.  We have some other thoughts about how to expand this idea...For now....make it a holiday gift....and then a regular gift when you commuicate with your farm.

The communities you have the honor of serving have been good to you....make your give back...Good to them...and for them. A hand up knows no season.

Good morning Sally and David.  Great ideas.  I'm currently working with a number of other folks arranging a system for local restaurants and grocery stores to supply leftovers to our local food bank.  It is going really well.

No secret - just go in and ask the grocery/restaurant and have volunteers schedule pickups in the evenings.

Sally and David- once again, you are both extremely thoughtful and giving people. I love the idea of agents incorporating their farm area and giving them the opportunity to help their community as well.

Gabe Sanders Houston has had such a program for many years now...repurposing their extras so that others can enjoy good meals.

Oh, I LOVE this idea, Sally! My pantry always has excess and I know others feel the same way too. I farm my old neighborhood and know most of the people there - what a great time it would be to 'pick up' the donations and 'catch-up' with my old neighbors! I love it! Thanks for the idea!
