Downtown Jackson is rich with architecture from the MS State Capitol to the Governor's Mansion, and the most delightful time to tour Historic Downtown is at Christmastime. Guided tours are available at the MS Governor's Mansion throughout the year, but I had the opportunity to visit the Governor's Mansion this weekend during the 23rd Annual Christmas by Candlelight Tour.
Governor Phil Bryant and First Lady Deborah Bryant were gracious to greet visitors and pose for photos in front of the 12 foot Leyland Cypress Christmas tree while piano music wafted through the halls. Miss Mississippi as well as Miss Teen Mississippi were also on hand for photos. Jolly Old Saint Nick was there, too.

Several historic sites were on tour, including the home of Eudora Welty, one of MS beloved authors, the State Capitol, and the Old Capitol Museum. The newly constructed Civil Rights Museum and MS History Museum were featured this year, also.
Employees and volunteers were on hand to offer guidance throughout the evening, and buses transported visitors to all the sites on the tour.
If you are in town, be sure to add the Christmas by Candlelight Tour to your holiday schedule next year. Word of advice: Go early so you can see all the stops during the allotted time.
