Austin Texas live work play, austin texas top US cities, top us cities, best places to live, relocating to austin, moving to austin, best US CityKiplinger's Personal Finance Magazine (July 2008) has named Austin. TX as one to the ten best places in the United States to Live, Work and Play!  They make these assumptions based on many factors including:

  • Strength of the local economy.
  • The availability of good jobs.
  • Affordability of living.
  • Lifestyle enhancements (availability of fun things to do).

The following statistics were noted for Austin:

Population: 1,506,425
Population Growth Since 2000: 17%
Percentage of Workforce in Creative Class: 36.5%
Cost-of-Living Index: 92.8 (100 being national average)
Median Household Income: $52,882
Income Growth Since 2000: 12.2%

According to Kiplinger's research, one of the keys to a bright future is a healthy shot of people in the creative class. People in creative fields -- scientists, engineers, architects, educators, writers, artists and entertainers -- are catalysts of vitality and livability in a city. As you can see, more than one-third of the residents of Austin are in this category.  With a good balance of household income to cost of living (below national averages), Austin has an interesting mix of possibilities related to growth and development for the coming years.  In the top ten, Austin comes in at number 6 on Kiplinger's list.

Loved Austin when I was out there (twice) last summer. I could see living there. A university town always has a lot going on and then there's the great music scene.

Yes. Isn't Austin great. Forbes also ranks Austin high on the list of places to live and so do many other magazines.
